Louise, Don't know Patrick or Peter but will have to do some investigating. Could be that Peter is the brother of our Robert. Thanks a million. Hi Louise, Unfortunately, none of them are familiar but that doesn't mean they don't belong to us. What you can tell us about Agnes SPEAR? Malcolm... Your family won't be in this book because the entries end around 1867. Have you tried Naturalization Records? Census records? Louise
Upper Canada/ Canada West is Ontario Lower Canada/ Canada East is Quebec
Hi. Can you look at these records on line? The small town I live near has a nice Genealogy Room. But nobody to answer question. I'm new to this. I have been reading this list and THESHIPSLIST. I have received a lot help from listeners here. Thank You and happy seaching:) Sandra DUFF McFall
Marie... I just read your e mail stating that your family was from Renfrew. The Patrick SPIERS I listed was b 1787. From Bridge of Weir, RFW, s/o Peter S. 1769-1821. To Brampton ONT CA 1833, with family. pg. 397 LDW 30 Jun 1971 (LDW=Letters to Donald Whyte. Personal correspondence of the author. Not indexed.)
Hi Sandra... The book covers immigrants up to 1867. I would suggest that you look in Naturalization Records, land records, city directories etc. Louise
Hi Marie... I found an Agnes SPEAR, a Patrick SPIERS, Agnes SPIERS, and a John SPIERS. Any of these familiar? Louise
Hi Bruce... I believe that is correct. Before Confederation, Upper Canada was Ontario-more or less-and Lower Canada was Quebec. Hopefully, this is right. Louise
Thanks for time frame. My g grandparnets and grandfather came in 1910 from Scotland with another family. It is hard finding information because the census is 1901 in Canada.I'm going to Library to see what help I can get.Families are John DUFF wife Elizabeth CRICHTON /DUFF and children John age about 12 or 13 Margaret Charlotte James Bessie the other family was: William CRICHTON wife Elizabeth MCFARLANE CRICHTON son William age about 3 They came Glasgow To Quebec DUFF's settle in Montreal and the CRICHTON went on to Saskatchewan. Happy seaching to everyone:) Sandra DUFF MCFALL
Thanks again, Christine. Will definitely try it. Regards Marie Spears
As I recall, the list stops in 1865, the time of confederation. Also as I recall, "Canada" means Upper and Lower Canada - Ontario and Quebec. Is that correct? Hi Louise; I am searching for my wife's grandmother, Bessie Chalmers, who came to Canada in 1891 as a young lady of 16. She came with her mother, Ellen (Helen?) Chalmers, after the death of George Chalmers (Father/Husband). We think they came over on the ship "Mongolian" but I cannot find any trace of them on the passenger lists. It is possible that they came with Bessie's brothers, William and Alex. Could you do a look up for me and let me know? Hi Louise, Thank you for posting your thought and how and why you feel that way. I too have many peoples to thank for all the assittance that others have been so generous with their time. I have always felt that Sharing in Caring, and recently read the below Quote that puts it in perspective. Here is a little quote that I recently found: Cheers Edd Sinnett "It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived." by -Helen Walton ----- Original Message ----- From: <LHawthorne@aol.com> To: <SCOTS-IN-CANADA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2002 11:54 AM Subject: [SCTCDN] "Dictionary" lookups > Hi Listers... > I want to thank those of you who are concerned about me using my time to do > lookups in the "Dictionary". > However, I do only have the one book to look in. Hi Christine, Thanks for the idea. Will do that. Our family hails from Renfrewshire. Our gggrandfather was born in Greenock. We know when he arrived in Canada but are trying to find out something about his parents and siblings. Hello Marie, Sticking my nose in here, but I thought I would mention this, I have done a lot of researching in and around Glasgow Scotland ,and although the spelling is different to yours might be worthwhile if you check out Spiers......there seems to be a lot of that spelling there. I went to Google, and put in Spiers Genealogy, quite few hits came up. Maybe if Louise doesn't have S's this might give you some ideas. Good Luck.
