Hello Looking for any info on family (ancestors or descendants of) Horace WALPOLE who married Mary McINTYRE possibly in Perth, Drummond Twp, Lanark Co, Ontario, Canada around or bef 1830. They had at least one child---Mary Elizabeth (Isabella) WALPOLE b. March 12, 1830 in Perth, Drummond Twp, Lanark Co, Ontario. Mary married John Alexander MURDOCH in Bathurst, Lanark Co., Ontario. I don't know where Horace came from although Mary likely came from Scotland...but I'm not certain of that either. John Alexander MURDOCH came from Scotland. Thanks for any information on WALPOLE. I am looking for my Great Aunt Adiline(note spelling) Robb. I have her landing in Halifax March 6th 1912. She is traveling alone via the Grand Trunk Railway to Vernon, British Columbia. Adiline has a job as a children'snurse for a family named Clifford. On the night of Saturday August 31, 1912 Adiline is involved in the infanticideof her daughter and is taken into custody. On Tuesday September 3rd she was brought forward to a coroner's jury in Vernonand charged with infanticide. 17th September 1912 her preliminary hearing was in Vernon. She was remanded to stand trial in Kamloops British Columbia. Week of 10 October 1912 the trial was held in Kamloops and Adiline was acquitted of the charge. The evening of the acquittal Adiline stays in a local hotel "Leyland" and then disappears from site. Nov. 7th 1920 Adiline is returning through the port of Montreal, from visiting friends and family in Aberdeen Scotland. Her “Passenger’s Declaration” shows the Toronto address # 5 Marchmount Road and that she is still single. She seems to be working as a “Trained Nurse” and is now a Canadian Citizen. She shows her religion as Presbyterian. She Left Liverpool on the “SS Megantic on October 30 1920. This is the last contact that I know. At this point Adiline drops off the planet. The above is what I know of Adiline in Canada. as far as I can tell the last contact with family was her aunt in Aberdeen on the 1920 trip. Adiline was born in Aberdeen Scotland 4th February 1891 to Charles and Annie(Stuart) Robb. Annie's sister is thought to be the last contact in Scotland "Elizabeth Reid" The questions that I have are 1: What happened that she would leave Scotland about 3 months pregnant? 2: Where did she go after October 12 1912? 3: When did she get to Toronto and what happened to her after 1920? Adiline's four sibs 3 boys and a girl all pass through or lived in Canada by 1920. None of the family admits that they contacted Adiline and there is no written info to support any contact. Any help in finding any information on Adiline Robb would be of great help. I am considering putting a headstone on Adilines daughters grave in the next year and I would like to have some closure for Adilines family. Owen Robb Lethbridge

Greetings All. I pass on for your information the following link to an excellent article by Randy Boswell in the Ottawa Citizen regarding efforts to regain access to 1906 Census records. Titled "Battle Rages over 1906 Census" the article appears in the 15 November issue of the Ottawa Citizen. http://www.canada.com/search/story.aspx?id=2b4b04e3-d69d-4142-b487-6d2e0 5352a8a If the link is wrapped on to two lines, be sure to copy and paste the full URL to your browser to access the article. Good morning, I belong to many other Lists, but have just found this one. For this morning I'd just like to briefly mention .. four (adult) KERR siblings who migrated from Ireland to Canada right around 1825. Two of the siblings had been married into a HENDERSON family (families) in probably County Sligo, Ireland. These five families all settled in Gore Township, Argenteuil County, Quebec Province. (one additional Henderson family). And, their descendants basically all stayed in the same general area throughout the 1800's. My ancestors were first-cousins Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON who were both born in Gore Township, and their son, William KERR. Right around 1870, William Kerr migrated to Boston, MA. There he met Elizabeth HANNAH whose family had migrated from Glasgow to Boston when she was an infant. They married in Boston and settled there raising six children. Robert and Elizabeth's younger two sons moved to Washington State when they became adults. They had two daughters, whom I've not been able to trace yet. My older uncles and aunts FIRMLY insist that their grandfather was from SCOTLAND, and no one is going to change their minds. Yet, it is known that the four Kerr siblings I'm discussing were all born in Ireland between 1795 and 1805. Several researchers have not been able to determine whom their parents were. (Children: Mary, Patrick, Elizabeth, John) I have a strong suspicion that there were more siblings, several of whom might have come to Canada and settled in other areas. (I have been told that during the 1700's MANY families were sent from Scotland to Ireland to help balance out ... "religion.") The researchers I've found do not really know which County in Ireland these KERR siblings came from. But, I've found out there were Kerr families in County Sligo, where the HENDERSON families were living. One document in Canada stated that they came from County Kenny ..which could have meant County Kerry or County Kilkenny! One of the questions I'd like to ask is .. I know it is early in the morning in Boston .... but I looked at the Index of RootsWeb Lists, and I do not see a List mentioned for ... Scotland. Is there one? And, because so many families and people migrated back and forth between Ireland and Scotland, I wonder why there is not a List for "Scotch/Irish" families. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. My main research of 8-9 years is on the KIDDER surname. My ancestor, J. Calvin KIDDER, was born in St. Stephen, NB, in 1799. (His father was originally from southern NH.) Calvin Kidder started a large branch of the family in Washington and Aroostook Counties in Maine. But, because Calvin grew up in New Brunswick, his extended family knew ..and married .. some Scots .. living in NB or NS. "Cal, Jr." (his son) married Miranda McLAUGHLIN, one of many daughters of Laughlin McLaughlin. "There are two lasting bequests we can give our children; one is roots, the other is wings." Hodding Carter, Jr.

There has been a number of people on this list since its inception, who have Scots ancestors, who settled in parts of Quebec, and married French Canadian partners. Enclosed is a site that may be of some help via a limited time free offer in finding who these partners were and perhaps offspring of couples. A service I thought may help some who have brick walls. Give it try. http://www3.sympatico.ca/fcgss/fcgss/site.html Christine
In Flanders Field In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. by Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp officer, Dr. John MacRae [1872-1918]

Thank you very much Anthony, Marilyn and Judi !! I got up to Paisley for a day about two weeks ago and checked the graveyard myself. Unfortunately, not even the library was open that day and I had run out of time to be away. I had checked the OCF - only the daughter and her family were listed. However, I got the death certificates from the archives and the parents died in Paisley (William Scott 1874 & Isabella 1875) so I'm assuming they were buried there also. Bruce is a new area for me as my line comes through another son that lived in Ayr (Waterloo Co). I just found out that they were there through the daughter's family with an unusual name - Bone. They are listed on the 1871 census for Paisley. Two brothers (Wm and Thos) were in Ayr, another (James) has not been found yet. Haven't been able to find out when they immigrated from Melrose, SCT.....guessing probably about 1845-1850ish. No more trips north probably til spring now so I'm computer bound!
