David......who has pretty cute knees............... Had just a quick look...........it's lunchtime here..........but you've obviously put in a lot of work already. Will have to take some time to check out all the areas and also to get my family names etc. in order so as to post them. Who knows, maybe Elizabeth from Ayrshire is a relative of mine.........so far my Orr/Henderson/Wilson/Hillock/Halley/ Wallace families were from the areas around Glasgow (with a touch or two of Ireland) which is pretty close to Ayrshire (by Canadian standards anyway). Jan ps. although it may not hold up to closer inspection, at first glance you look a lot like my (older) brother! :-) David M Paterson wrote: > Hi Jan, my Orr was Elizabeth from Ayrshire, Scotland who married John Craig > and came to Canada - New Brunswick - in 1842. Hi David! My gg-grandmother was born Jean Aikman Paterson 1820/21, Dumfries, Scotland and died 1907 (from a fire) on the farmstead near Melbourne, Ontario. She married James Gowanlock (from Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland) in late 1830's/early 1840's probably somewhere in Middlesex County, Ontario. Her parents were James Paterson and Mary Christie (?) maybe from Ruthwell Dumfries, Scotland. Would love to know if Jean had any brothers or sisters. However, my father was born in Hamilton, Scotland in 1906 and came to B.C. with his family about 1910ish. I've seen a lot of Orr families emigrated to Ontario in the 1800's though--one of yours? We Scots descendants are probably more 'connected' than we would expect! Best Regards, Jan David M Paterson wrote: > Hullo Jan, we're always pleased to be able to help on this List I guess. > I'm especially glad to be able to help someone with Orr as a surname, as my > gg-grandmother was one! > David. > > This email was scanned with Norton Anti Virus 2002.
Thank you Judi and David for your thoughts on putting personal information of family on the internet. It really helped clarify things for me. Sometimes this information has been passed along from or about family of whom you do not know how to contact to obtain permission. This means I'll be treating their info as if they had not given their permission. I believe almost all of us 'family researchers' are people of good will, but, I suppose, there is no way to ensure that our information is always used in the way it was intended. Thank you again. Regards, Jan Corriveau, nee Orr

David, I have tried several times but am unable to bring up the website. Is anyone else having this problem? Graechen Stewart Michigan
Thank you Nancy Cameron I can't get through to you on your site as everything I send is returned Malcolm
Hullo Good People, I just want to let you know about a resource center I have just set up with this List in mind primarily. Some while ago, there was some discussion about this topic and one member said she would be interested in the creation of a web site though was too busy right then to do it. In the meantime, I who had had the idea of a site quite early on in the history of this List, have created a "starter site", being an MSN Community Group one which may not be ideal but does serve some useful purposes. It provides a repository for "archived" information, will provide links and information handy for researchers, and will I trust be informative, entertaining and a good place to visit. I hope you find it so. As of this time, it is far from complete - it needs the input you all have and it is for us all to contribute to as well as utilise. Please, for those used to the professionally made sites, don't be too scathing - a "real" one will emerge in due course. As yet, I lack the skills to do a first rate one but I'm trying to"get there" and to help you all. Nor will I pay for one till I win the lottery maybe lol. Here's the url to the site - http://groups.msn.com/ScotsinCanada/_homepage.msnw Sincerely, David. This email was scanned with Norton Anti Virus 2002.

Hi Debbie, Scots in Canada is a mailing list you subscribe to on Rootsweb, I will attach the url for you........you can subscribe and email questions. Linda
To find names and address of people still living in the 'home' area who may be relatives, call up Canada 411 -- click on person search, type in the surname you're looking for and the name of the city or town in Ontario. Most of Southwold township would be listed in the telephone directory under 'Shedden' for the village that would net you McIntyres. It also gives you addresses and zip codes or as we call them in Canada, postal codes. Good luck. Was this the Angus McIntyre the Dutton banker married to a Gunn? If so, he ties into my Gunn family who were Selkirk Settlers from Manitoba.
