    1. Re: [SCTCDN] ROSS,Cameron, Sutherland,Morris,McKay, Sinclair,McQueen, Morrison,
    2. Joan McVichie
    3. I don't know if this will be any help, but I grew up in Glengarry Co.,Ont. Canada, & these names were very common there. As Laura Rhule knows we share the McMartins, who are my ancestors. Camerons were also my ancestors, & I haven't searched the whole line yet. There were many in the Martintown area & Lancaster.- also many Ross'. The Sutherlands were well known & documented in Glengarry. The Morris', & McKay's lived in Alexandria, & some McKay's lived in Dalhousie Que. just on the Ont. border. Sinclair is only familiar to me as an ancestor in Breadlebain Scotland ( Loch Tay area) as marrying into my ancestors,-Mcvichie. McQueen,Morrison,Fergusons, Jamiesons, McDonalds, are very commom names in Glengarry. After the war in 1783, men were given crown land, & some sold it & moved to be closer to their relatives in other area's. In my reading & old land indenture records I have showed me how much they did move around. In the mid 1800's there were big families & not enough employment for all the sons & as a result they moved westward. Hope this gets to all the people I rec'd emails from. 1. [SCTCDN] Roll Call: DALGLIESH, AMOS, BAILEY, JOHNSTONE
    2. David
    3. Hello, James DALGLIESH and Elizabeth AMOS (born Nov. 22, 1824) were my g-g-grandparents, and their first child, James Amos DALGLIESH, was born May 5, 1840 in Dumfries, Waterloo County, Ontario. They were born in Yarrow, Selkirk, Scotland, and apparently were married in Canada. James BAILEY (1792-1864) and Eliza JOHNSTONE (1795-1862), my g-g-g-grandparents, were living in Carrickfergus, Antrim, Ireland before coming to Canada in 1842. They settled in Walpole Township, Haldimand County, Ontario. All of them were Presbyterians. David in Pennsylvania

    2. Wendy Cosper
    3. Hi, My mother told me many years ago that the surnames- Wheeler-Sinclair-McCormick-Ross-Rae-Oatman-Libby, plus several others were connected to my Adams family of Quebec. There were several Adams families all in the same area and I am trying to connect them. They all arrived in the Restigouche area from Aberdeenshire, Scotland between 1780 and 1815. Anyone out there with any connections? Wendy rambodog@chartermi.net

    1. [SCTCDN] Rollcall: Arthur STRACHAN
    2. Seeking marriage or origins of Arthur STRACHAN who married Angelique RACINE before 1794. This marriage is not found in any of the traditional marriage repertoires. (Angelique is said to be the daughter of Jean-Baptiste-Clement Racine and Marguerite Monty, m. at Chambly, Quebec - sources: Blue Drouin and the PRDH.) Also seeking who would be the likely notary for St-Joseph-de-Chambly in the 1780s and 1790s. First known child, baptized Catholic, Jean-Baptiste (John), in 1794 in St-Joseph-de-Chambly. Other known children, all either married or baptized Catholic are: - Marguerite STROKEN, b. before 1795, m. Antoine Grise in 1812 at St-Joseph-de-Chambly. - Jean-Baptiste, b. 1796 at Chambly, m. Clotilde COMETTE in 1830 at St-Athanase de Iberville. (He first m. Louise MONTY in 1821 at St-Luc, comte St-Jean, Quebec) - Angelique, b. 1799 at Chambly. - Sophie, b. about 1800 (could possibly be "Angelique"), m. Pierre BROSSEAU in 1819 at St-Luc, comte St-Jean. Arthur STRACHAN later married Genevieve Laurent dit Jeanjoffe in 1813 at St-Joseph-de-Chambly. They had 3 known children: Albert aka Hubert, Julienne and Adelaide. This Hubert/Albert went by the name of STRONG. Arthur STRACHAN is called "about 76 years old" at his death in 1840 at St-Athanase, comte Iberville. He is also called "anglais" and "etranger" and "sergent au 26ieme regiment" and "cultivateur" in the various records mentioned above. I find no land records in his name in Quebec. Family tradition is that he was Scottish. This man has been a dead-end for me for over 20 years and is my direct ancestor. Regards, Shari Strahan Massachusetts
