This might be a little off the subject of genealogy but if it helps to save your family tree program in the event you catch a virus then I guess it might be said to be genealogy related. This is a free online virus scan that you can go to at any time and run a scan of your entire computer. Now a few of you are saying I already have a virus scanner. Well, so do I but in researching the latest worm I found out that one of the first things it does is to get into your virus detection program and alter it so it doesn't recognize the worm to be there. This online virus detection will never be corrupted so if it says you don't have a virus or a worm you can be sure you don't and if it says you do you can clean it immediately. If this link doesn't work email me and I will send you the address. <A HREF="http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp">Click here: Free online virus scan</A> Judi ([email protected]) (Judith A. One of the best ways (free!, the last time that I checked) to obtain census returns of Canada on microfilm is to order them from the Canadian Archives in Ottawa through inter-library loan. To do that, go to your local public library and if they have a microfilm reader the reference librarian will submit the request to Ottawa for you. Your branch of your public library might not have a film-reader but should be able to direct you to another branch that does. This is one of the services for which we pay taxes, so we should use it! Another free option is to find a university library or a genealogy society archive which has copies of the films that you wish to see. There should be no need to rent the films from Salt Lake City. Think Canadian!! Norma

Hi Carol: Since I am new to this e-mail listing and have just reviewed your query on McDonald 1850 Cumberland Canada. Maybe this information will be of assistance. Cumberland Township and Cumberland ON are located about 20-25 minute East of Ottawa, Ontario. I grew up on the Homelands of John McDonald the pioneer settler who came to Canada from Scotland in 1821. The homelands and family cemetery are located about 3 miles from the town of Almonte Ontario. Almonte is a town about 40 minute drive west of Ottawa, Ontario. Here's a bit of the McDonald Family Story THE FAMILY OF JOHN MCDONALD PIONEER SETTLER :The McDonald family who settled on the 10th line of Ramsay Township Lanark County and were amongst the first settlers of the area, emigrated from Scotland in l82l. They came from the area of Lochbuie on the Isle of Mull. John McDonald, head of this family who was thought to have been a merchant in comfortable circumstances, was led to emigrate to Canada to establish homes for his sons where the opportunity arose to obtain grants of land in Upper Canada. His wife, Ishbel MacLaine was a haughty lady who called herself Lady Lochbuie, as her father was Chief MacLaine of Castle Moy on Lochbuie. I have previously posted the complete story plus a couple of farm pictures on the following site; http://www.rootsweb.com/~onlanark/. The story is located under the heading Pioneer families. I also have a few McDonald family members that are researching the history of this family. If this is your McDonald family roots, then with your consent will provide your e-mail address to the other family researchers. PS: I am not researching this family, but since I grew up on the homelands- take great interest in the family. I am researching Munro; McKay; McKirdy; Penman; McMunn; Price and Manary families of Lanark County Regards; Jayne in Ottawa
Just noting some links being shared. Here is a link I have found to be excellent when wanting any site to do with Canadian Genealogy http://www.islandnet.com/~jveinot/cghl/cghl.html Through it I have found many really, really good links and information The Rootsweb New Brunswick page http://www.rootsweb.com/~cannb/ - is terrific and many of the counties as Norma has pointed out Charlotte County has census info - so does Kent County NB, (including many cemetery MI transcriptions) http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbken/ In BC - the whole BMD index is on-line in a wonderful searchable index. http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm and if you join the BC list - there are people there that will happily look up the listings for you - and even send you a copy of the registration. (I know myself - I went to the archives in Victoria BC - and found it to be wonderful - with the index - it is so easy to look up registrations) Also in Newfoundland is the Grand Banks site - I am amazed at what is on here - includiing the 1921 census for Newfoundland (remember that was before Newfoundland joined confederation. http://ngb.chebucto.org/ Judi McNairn, Bruce County, Ontario

You might just do a scan of your computer for a virus. It is often the only sign that your computer has been infected...until it is too late. Some viruses sit for 14 days before they make a mess of your computer. Yahoo might have save you. My family of Camerons can only be traced to Tyree (Tiree) and Coll in the late 1700's. I have several missing pieces leading to today. The family has history and some is mentioned in books about WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON. I am looking for other current family members working on the tree hoping to fill in gaps and exchange documentation.
