Unfortunately the certificate I got from the Internet gives no other details. Can SKS tell me where I may find a death notice or obituary. Is there a local newspaper in Hartney? Are more details available from the Manitoba Government? Best regards Peter Ferguson in cold and wet (thank God) New South Wales

    3. Hello there and thank you both, Jessie and Tom and Lianne for your help. Lianne, I would appreciate if you could look up the directory for the 1950-55 period and maybe after that to see if and when the address became defunct and then at least I'd have some sort of clue as to time frame. I was also wondering if perhaps Betty did marry Wally Meyers, maybe that would show as a listing also, and perhaps Dudley Milton too. It's a big ask from my end. I have got the death certificate in question and the address shows as Apt 10, 1125 Broughton, Vancouver. I have no idea after that apart from Christina, his widow, remarried to an Orville Johnson. I've searched the phone books online and have found only one Dudley Milton who lives in the United States and also phoned him but alas he is not the one although he was within a year of being the correct age. It seems that I cannot find them unless I hire a detective (lol) but thank you all anyway. They may just turn up out of the blue. Cheers and many thanks for your help, Margaret. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jessie & Tom Lennie" <jestom@shaw.ca> To: <otts@hotkey.net.au> Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 10:36 AM Subject: RE: [SCTCDN] Milton > Alexander Thomas Milton died in Vancouver July 15, 1955 age 54. 3. Hi, I can't remember if I answered this. It is what you call old age. The names Carmichael and Chalmers are both names of families that married into my Adams families. But they were all in the Restigouche area of Quebec and across the river in Campbellton New Brunswick. I guess it is possible that some of them moved on to Ontario, as did a lot of families. Christie I am new to your list as of today And I am researching my Wilcox side of the family in Canada. This is what I know so far: Caleb Wilcox (Willcox) born about 1809. In Upper-Canada. He married Jane M. Bartlett on August 8, 1836, both of Mosa. Caleb purchased 100 acres in Mosa township, Middlesex County on March 17, 1836. As of the 1851 census, the family was still living in Mosa, Middlesex County, Canada. Sometime after 1851 the Wilcox family moved to Jackson County and Clinton County, Iowa. What I am trying to find out is. Who Caleb's parents were and did he have any brothers or sisters. In looking for his parents, and siblings I have hit a brick wall. Does someone on the list know where I would I find this information I was also wondering, if there was anyone on the list, Who is also researching the Wilcox family in Upper-Canada. 3. This is from an old Cdn newspaper clipping that was cut out, which was in an album belonging to my gr. grandfather Charles Mcintosh James S. Mcintosh On may 7th, 1846 Lieutenant James S. Mcintosh's 5th infantry formed into fighting squares with eight pound cannons at the corners. The front rank dropped to one knee, locked and loaded while the second rank prepared to deliver the next volley. Cannon and rifle fire echoed across the battlefield as the fifth regiment squares opened fire on the Mexican Lancers at a distance of 100 feet. Lancers were blasted off their horses while others charged onward and the first rank of soldiers stepped back to reload. the second rank dropped to one knee and fired on command. lancers and horses vanished in swirling clouds of smoke. The lancers won the battle leaving killed and wounded soldiers and amond them lay the body of Lieutenant James S. Mcintosh with his sword still clutched in his hand. He was 17 years old. I know that some Mcintosh families from Canada moved to the USA, and I would like to know more about this one if possible If anyone has further information on this writeup please drop me a line. maggie nee mcintosh mpeters@xcelco.on.ca

    3. During the late ice age a bridge of land connected Canada with Asia where the Bering Strait now separates them. It is beleived that the small bands of Indian People crossed this bridge from Asia in search of food more than 20,000 years ago. Archaeologists have found traces of early men in caves in the Western United States and some stone tools dating back to 15,000 B.C. Archaeologists have traced one ancient way of life called the Folsom culture in the Great Plains Region. Each culture developed distinctive ways of life by the time the Vikings sailed down the eastern coast of Canada from their settlements in Iceland and Greenland around 1000 A.D. Dates in History of Canada 1497 John Cabot landed on the east coast of Canada 1534 Jacques Cartier discovered the Gulf of St. Lawrence 1604 Samuel Champlain and Sieur De monts founded a colony at the mouth of the St. Croix River in New Brunswick 1608 Samuel Champlain founded Quebec 1642 French Settlers founded the city of Quebec 1689-1763 in a series of ward, the british captured Quebec and conquered New France 1774 French Canadians won political and religious rights by the terms of the Quebec Act 1775-1783 During the Revolutionary War in America Colonial Troops unsuccessfully attacked Canada, Loyalists moved to Canada from the Usa colonies 1791 The old Province of Quebec was divided into Upper and Lower Canada 1837-8 Rebellions broke out in both colonies 1839 Lord Durham urged self government for Canada 1840 The Union Act joined Upper and Lower Canada under a single governor and legislature 1848 The United Colony won limited self government 1858 British Columbia was established as a colony 1864 A meeting at Quebec made plans for confederation 1867 The British North America Act established the Dominion of Canada and the English began trading into the Hudsons Bay which had become organized in 1670 by the Cree and became a fur trading trapping post for the Eskimo. The Northwest Company began to get under way in the 1770's and in 1816 after the Red River War, the two companies merged. Alexander Mackenzie was the first person to cross Canada coast to Coast. Rhiel, who claimed to be of Indian ancestry but was of French ancestry provoked the the North West rebellion on the farm of William McIntosh in Battleford, Sask. and Louis Rhiel also provoked needless war between the french Indian and the Ontarions. In 1875 the R.C.M.P. were organized to stop the trade of whiskey, which ended in three months. Information taken from my Gr 7 History exam. maggie nee Mcintosh mpeters@xcelco.on.ca

President Jackson litterally herded these people on foot to okla and some got away and came to Canada. These families were friends of the Upper Creek Natives more commonly known as the Red Stick tribe, and just for a little extra info Okla is the only reservation with blue eyed people. They had to leave their beautiful homes they built and crops and move, and the ones who learned to speak the Seminole language even though they wereof Scottish descent were never allowed to speak it again. In other words they were never even allow to say IXCHAY which in Seminole means Good Morning. maggie mpeters@xcelco.on.ca
