Hi All: My computer when for the big one 8 days ago and I was e-mailing a lady by the name of Charlotte. I had sent her the murray family tree. If she could get a hold of me at this address great. Thanks in Advance Pat Murray
Hello Folks, Here is a really interesting site about Scotland. Has a little bit of everything. On the far right there is a link, Scotland Images, great pictures, but the whole site is enjoying. Cheers Christine http://www.fife.50megs.com/index.html
At the risk of creating trivia-traffic on our site, I want to do a "Hail" to the List Administrator message. I think our Scot-Can administraor is doing a terrific job and should get some thanks. Apparently, there are over 500 of us who are interested, waiting, watching for a clue, so we can all give her a thanks directly (not relpy all), which will clutter her e-mail, but also show that we value the site and her monitoring of it. THANKS FROM THE LIST Happy hunting Leslie, a 5/6 gen scot in canada
The Storie/Storey/Story names were common in successive waves of immigration to Canada over the years. I have not done any research on families with this surname east of Ontario, but have been working on the families who immigrated to Ontario directly from Scotland or from the US before 1867. There are some significant groupings of these families in various locales. These are some of the family groups of original settlers that I have so far, but would like to add to the group and solicit interest from you in developing a list of pre-confederation families with this surname. I do not have any information on Storie/Storey/Story families who immigrated AFTER CONFEDERATION. Some of you who live west or east of Ontario may have pre-confederation roots in Canada - many of our relatives moved to the USA (e.g., California, Minnisota, Iowa etc.) or to western Canada in the 1860-1920 time frame. Our large family immigrated to Eastern Ontario from Berwick, Scotland in the 1820-1845 period mostly to Leeds-Grenville (Oxford-on-Rideau, Kemptville, South Gower and Edwardsburgh) and Dundas (Mountain and Matilda) Counties principally, so if your Storey/Story roots are Scottish and from Eastern Ontario (we seem to have used these spellings most often, although our Scottish ancestor was most likely a Storie in the 1770s), you may belong in our tree. I am also interested in the Storie/Storey/Story families with Irish and English roots, so that we do not "mix up" the children! For example, there were early Irish Storys in Fitzroy Harbour and Escott, English Storeys in Winchester, Ottawa and Prescott. And to complicate things, some Scottish Storys were born in England! Another Storie group of several brothers came to Renfrew and Lanark Counties in the 1825 period (McNab, Horton and other townships closer to Ottawa later) In Arthur township, Wellington County, there was another Story group originally from Roxboroughshire, Scotland (Andrew and Agnes) There was also a large St. Vincent Township, Grey and Bruce County group of Storys, headed by Walter and James, as possible original settlers Other groups were in: Ontario North District, Rama Twnshp Ontario South District, Pickering Twnshp York County, Markham township Peterborouth County Huron County, Tuckersmith Township Norfolk County, Townsend Durham county, Clark twnsp Hastings County, Carlow township Prescott, Plantagenet If you have an interest in connecting with other Storeys in Canada, please contact me at lwgrauer@shaw.ca.
Please bear with me a little longer on all my posts of today, they will be coming to an end soon, hopefully this should be the last. This information was passed on via another listowner. As a listowner who has had Maggie on her list where she did generate a lot of mail and had a lot of following, I feel that I have to send this on to you all. I wish no discussions about the matter, thanks. Sorry folks if you got a double posting from me, was a goof up on my part. Christine
I am providing a URL below, it is a Rootsweb page, and it is well worth reading. I urge all our membership to be very careful, in where they seek information, there has been numerous "scams" out in cyberspace recently. By privately supplying your address to individuals you are opening yourself up to perhaps receiving "spam" which is the curse of the internet, and very hard to get rid of. About one of your best bets is to ask on a trusted site. RootsWeb sites are trusted, with safeguards in place to help protect posters, there is an abundance of RootsWeb list, if you feel you could be in the wrong area of where to look.... *ask*, it is easy to ask, someone on any given list will generally answer and tell you where to look, which list you should be asking. Beware of posters who are looking to endear themselves to you by supplying common sites that can be found in any search engine. The purpose of this Scots in Canada list is to promote Scots in Canada, and help with queries and postings significant to both countries. I really urge you all to take a look at the URL. This is to inform one and all, that the UPPER CANADA listowner has NO information on the lists of names that Maggie Peters advertised said listowner had. I repeat *NO INFORMATION*. I ask you respect the listowner and refrain for asking for look-ups. Thanks Christine List Admin
This is a cut and paste, and in light of a post that Maggie Peters had out on this list last night, about contacting Mrs. Schultze for information regarding names on a list, below is Mrs Schutlze's answer to someone asking for info. I removed the names supplied by Maggie. Christine There seems to be some confusion over these settlers (listed below) which Maggie has been posting on other mailing lists. I think Maggie must have meant for people to go to my website, Olive Tree Genealogy. I have a large section on Canadian History and Genealogy there, at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ I don't personally have any information on these settlers, and I have no connection to them. So it won't do you any good to write to me directly, I wish I had some info to send you but I don't :-( My website may very well have information in its databases and records (all free) but you would have to go and check as it's a huge site (over 1,700 pages) and almost 1,000 databases so I don't know if those names will be found there or not. I hope so! :-) I'm not sure why the Upper Canada mailing list was mentioned as a source, but you could check the List Archives to see if anything's been posted. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/UPPER-CANADA.html Good luck and I hope this clears things up, please feel free to share this response with others who may be looking for these names. Lorine

Maggie, Did you receive this list from the listowner of Upper Canada List? Just because Mrs. Schultze is the listowner does not mean she has all the pertinent information at her fingertips. I notice your list ends in ETC. Any reason? Also where did these settlers come from? Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales.......or? This is not a battlefield or playing favourites, it is a common courtesy, we who administor these lists do so as a hobby not as a profession, we do it for the love of research and genealogy.
