Hello, I am so new to the world of genealogy but am intrigued with what I have found and want to learn more. From all that I have found in my searches is; my grgrgrgrgrandfather was Malcolm McCourry and was born 29 August 1742 in ISLAY, Scotland, but I do not know where. I have no idea who his parents were or anything about him prior to coming to the US or how he got here or when he came. As I have found out he settled in Morris County, NJ and married Rachel Freeman in Morristown in 1776, served in the Revolutionary War and had 5 daughters and one one son. In 1794 he left NJ and moved to NC and married a Sally or Sarah Lynn and had 3 sons and one daughter. He died in1829 in Yancey County, NC. I would appreciate information on reference books and where to purchase them. I have seen several books listed over the past few weeks but am concerned with the ones that would be the best reference library for me considering the cost of out of print books.
