    3. MURDOCH could be a Sept to either the MacDonald or Macpherson Clan. Simply put, a Clan is "one of the local or family groups of Scotland, especially in the Highlands or Borders, bearing a common name, and united under a head or chief". "Clan septs fall into three different classes: 1. Important clansmen, related by blood to the principal or chiefly line, who established their ownd branches. 2. Old families, often related to their adoptive clan, which performed hereditary duties and retained their name. 3. Individuals or groups who sought and obtained the protection of the clan, either retain their own name or adopting that of their protector." Source: The Clan Almanac, by Charles MacLean Not sure, but believe most fell into the third catagory. Andy Romano Portsmouth, VA USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna L.
