    1. [SCT~ROOTS] Lochgilphead
    2. Hi Connie, saw your wee note. Lochgilphead (all one word) is in Argyllshire, Scotland, standing as it does at the head of Loch Gilp, an arm of the larger Loch Fyne. It was originally a fishing village but grew larger when the Crinan Canal was built, bringing more people and trade to the area. It's now the County town (succeeding the more popular and well-known Inverary ) and the local government HQ is in nearby Kilmory Castle. Argyll, is of course, Campbell country ... Inverary Castle.being the seat of the Dukes of Argyll. Hope this helps: Roy PS. As a Stewart I'm afraid I'm not at all happy about the Campbells as they supported the Government side against the likes o' the bonny Prince ! Shame !
