Seeking ancestors of John Thomson, "of Arbroath," supposedly b. 12 Mar 1834. Certificate for his marriage to Louisa Sophia Waddell lists his residence as Arbroath and his occupation as tailor, ditto and ditto for his father James. However, the only listing in the Old Parish Records in the right time frame is a christening in Oct 1834 in Girthon, Kirkcudbrightshire, for John, the son of James and Mary (Reid) Thomson. Girthon is not that far from Sunderland, but why would someone from Kirkcudbrightshire end up in Arbroath? Also, there's no marriage record for a Mary Reid marrying a James Thomson, in Girthon or anywhere else. Can anyone answer these question, and end years of frustration?
