I would appreciate any information and/or addresses that would help me locate information on my ancestors. Charles Hughes emigrated to Scotland from Ireland (born 1815, Co.Tyrone, Ireland) about 1834. He married Ann Sweeney 1835, in Old Monkland, Scotland. They lived in the Airdrie, Lanarkshire, area--Faskine. They moved a lot and lived in five different areas in the 22 or so years they lived in Airdrie/Glasgow, Scotland He worked in the mines and they both were Catholics. Some of their children were Hugh Joseph, Margaret, Ann, Catherine, Jane, John, Charles. All were born in the Airdrie/Glasgow area, and in the 1861 Census they lived in the Parish of St. George. Some Hughes and Sweeneys are listed as sponsors for the children's baptisms, (Hugh Sweeney, Francis Sweeney, Bridget Sweeney, Catherine Quinn, Helen Quinn, Henry Hughes---but have no way of knowing if the Hughes are related to Charles and the Sweeneys to Ann and who are the Quinns? Surely they are related, but I have no proven connection. I have no knowledge of Charles' siblings, or parents. I have no knowledge of Ann's parents, but believe the Sweeneys were all born in Co.Sligo, Ireland. Ann Sweeney's sister, Catherine, married Matthew McHugh about 1845, in Scotland--and died there from an accident before 1865. They had two children, Matthew and Bridget. Bridget married James McKillop in Scotland. Around 1865-66 everyone immigrated to the USA in two groups. I think one of the ships was Caledonia and one was Hibernia. I have no idea where they landed in the US or from where they departed. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Georgia geerwin@darientel.net
