Hi Connie, saw your wee note. Lochgilphead (all one word) is in Argyllshire, Scotland, standing as it does at the head of Loch Gilp, an arm of the larger Loch Fyne. It was originally a fishing village but grew larger when the Crinan Canal was built, bringing more people and trade to the area. It's now the County town (succeeding the more popular and well-known Inverary ) and the local government HQ is in nearby Kilmory Castle. Argyll, is of course, Campbell country ... Inverary Castle.being the seat of the Dukes of Argyll. Hope this helps: Roy PS. As a Stewart I'm afraid I'm not at all happy about the Campbells as they supported the Government side against the likes o' the bonny Prince ! Shame !

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: LINDSAY Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 15:20:34 -0600 From: "Helen Owens" <howens@pacificcoast.net> To: <SCOTLAND-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help. My grandmother was Helen Fraser LINDSAY, born in Cheshire, England, in 1883, probably in a place called Altricham. Her family, however, came from Glasgow and her mother's maiden name was FRASER. There must be a marriage of a FRASER and a LINDSAY (around 1898-1907) as well as birth records in the area of 1860-1866 for a male LINDSAY and a female FRASER. If you don't know any specifics, can anyone point me to a site or source? Thanks so much, Helen Owens, Victoria, B.C. CANADA
It will be part of our history . dont forget to add it to genealogy and history notes. D.L.FOX http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fox2/sept11.html

Hi There! This is the first time I've queried the list please forgive any lack of protocol. I'm looking for any and all information pertaining to a John Edwards Sr. (one known son, John Jr. around 1740) that migrated to the United States (Orange County, North Carolina) around 1735+/-. He married a Mary Stokes there in 1738. He would be my 5th. Great Grandfather. I know this is very vague but I'm hoping for a long shot here :-) Thanks All, Don Edwards, Harford County, Maryland

Hi Folks, I have always been under the impression that my ancestors came from Northern Ireland. After many years of searching, I cannot find anything that leads me to believe it is so. I was even in contact with a "McElwee" genealogist in Northern Ireland who cannot find any births, deaths or marriages for my family members. On my G. Grandfather's Naturalization Papers, it states he was a subject of the Sovereign of "Great Britain." Could he have been born in Scotland and his family relocated to Ireland before coming to the US around 1876? The following is the information I have: G. Grandfather: Edward micelle, born December 1956 Parents: George McElwee and Isabella Maxwell McElwee Siblings" Bessie and Belle and another sister that I do not have her name. Naturalized: October 27th 1894 in the Court of Common Pleas, Fairfield County, Fairfield, CT. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate it. Barbara (McElwee) McDonald

Hi Listers, Re-posting my interests after changing email addresses. I have some conflicting evidence on my (possibly) great great great great grandfather John Milligan jr. He apparently left Scotland for PEI in 1825 but also fathered children in Scotland between 1819 - 1831!! Something obviously isn't right here. My info is that he died on PEI in 1873. His wife may have been Jean Mair. His children may have been Grizzel, Anthony, Alexander, Alexander, John, George, Peter and William, all born in Galston, Ayr, Scotland (apart from Grizzel, who was born in Sorn, Ayr, Scotland). My line as confirmed goes thru William Milligan. I want to confirm/deny a line to John Milligan jr of PEI, Canada. Any help much appreciated. Kelly
Hi Could sks please tell me which list I need for Dundee. My map doesn't show areas clearly. With thanks Angie S
