    1. [SCT~ROOTS] MURDOCH & SCOTT - Banff & Moray
    2. Donna L. Alden-Bugden
    3. Hello, I am at an impass in my research of John Alexander Murdoch b. 1795 in Banffshire. His great uncle was Bishop John Murdoch b. 1766 in Wellshead, Enzie but registered in Bellie, Morayshire. His mother's brother was Andrew Scott (also a Bishop born Feb 15, 1772 in Chapelford, Enzie. I have searched thoroughly the IGI at Familysearch to no avail. There are 2 Andrew Scott's but neither of them are mine. I believe that Andrew Scott died in Greenock, Glasgow in 1846 I am desperate....are there ANY Murdoch's or Scott's that are on the list that may have come from Banffshire or Morayshire? I would love to talk with you to see if we have a family connection. Thanks so much. Donna ***************************************************** Donna L. 1. Re: [SCT~ROOTS] Clan vs. Sept - My Muronalddoch Family
    2. Andy Romano
    3. MURDOCH could be a Sept to either the MacDonald or Macpherson Clan. Simply put, a Clan is "one of the local or family groups of Scotland, especially in the Highlands or Borders, bearing a common name, and united under a head or chief". "Clan septs fall into three different classes: 1. Important clansmen, related by blood to the principal or chiefly line, who established their ownd branches. 2. Old families, often related to their adoptive clan, which performed hereditary duties and retained their name. 3. Individuals or groups who sought and obtained the protection of the clan, either retain their own name or adopting that of their protector." Source: The Clan Almanac, by Charles MacLean Not sure, but believe most fell into the third catagory. Andy Romano Portsmouth, VA USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna L. 1. [SCT~ROOTS] Moray vs. Banff - 1772
    2. Donna L. Alden-Bugden
    3. I have found someone who I think is my relative. He was a Bishop (Andrew Scott) who was born in 1772. I believe that he was born in Banffshire...Chapelford, Enzie. However, it is listed as Bellie, Morayshire at Familysearch.org. If someone is born in Chapelford, Enzie in 1772 would they be registered in Bellie, Morayshire? I am confused a little about the changes since 1974. Thanks so much Donna ***************************************************** Donna L. 1. [SCT~ROOTS] Isabella Stewart
    2. Sharron
    3. Would anyone know anything of the family of Isabella Stewart? She was born circa 1890 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. From her death certificate I find that her father was an Andrew Stewart and her mother was Isabella Skinner. Isabella Stewart somehow became entwined with the Algie family who then lived in England. She was classed as their 'adopted' daughter, but when James Algie (father) left for Australia circa 1920 she came too. She lived with him here as a 'housekeeper' until the death of James's wife back in England in 1932. By 1936 Isabella had married James Algie and is buried with him in Australia. Does anyone know of her family in Scotland? Thanks Sharron --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
