Their four children were baptised in Stonehouse, Bothwell and the two younger ones in Dalziel - Thomas (m. Martha Ann SMITH in NZ), Neil McDonald, Euphemia McDonald (m. LEAN) and Janet. Catharine McDONALD, was born in Kenovay, Isle of Tiree to Neill McDONALD (d. 1838/39) and Euphemia (Effy) MacDONALD, as were her siblings Janet and Niel. Robert AULD and Catharine McDONALD died in Motherwell 1873 and the children went to live with family or were adopted by neighbours as follows. Thomas AULD came to New Zealand in 1879 as Thomas Auld SMITH, son of Motherwell neighbours Adam SMITH and Sophia WILSON (second relationship for both) and two of their children Adam (m. Thomas continued using the SMITH name including on NZ Electoral Rolls until at least 1893, then reverted to Thomas AULD.  The association with descendants of his adopted family continues today. Neil McDonald AULD is a mystery.  In 1881 he appears to be living as the adopted nephew of Janet COKE in Bothwell.  At some stage he has changed his name, dying in Pollok, Glasgow in 1945 as James STEEL (formerly Neil AULD), Robert AULD and Catharine McDONALD his parents. Euphemia McDonald AULD (d. 1918) went to live with her grandparents Thomas AULD and Janet NEILL in Kilmarnock.  She married James Reid LEAN (d. 1914). There were eight children, some baptisms found in Liberton, Elizabeth, Nancy, William jnr, Ann, Cecil, James and Christina (m. McGILL & BALLOCH/BALLOCK), thanks to Archie GILBERT for his SWAN input. By 1861 William, snr and jnr, Christina and possibly others, were living in Burdiehouse. The youngest child Francis (Fanny) Gordon SWAN (m. 3. Am researching the BAIN, GREIG, MacKENZIE and PAGAN families which originate from Ayrshire and Ross and Cromarty and settled in New Zealand in the later part of the 19th century. The main towns connected to these families, are Locharron and Lochalsh in Ross and Cromarty, and Muirkirk in Ayrshire. The names PRIMROSE and STEWART are also connected, but not sure how at this time. My website covering the above families has further information. Take a look at http://www.chrismahoney.co.nz/ and follow the Scotland link near the top of the page. I would be interested in knowing more about these families and/or finding someone who is connected.

Hello to both the Old & New Lists for Scottish Genealogy It has been many years and an email change since I posted my interests initially on Bulletin Boards, then on Rootsweb and my list of names has certainly grown. This will be, effectively, a merging, or, absorption, of the scotland-roots Rootsweb mailing list, into the scotland Rootsweb mailing list, and, other Scotland related genealogy mailing lists, in the new group. By agreement, that new group has been created, and, will be administered, by Valorie Zimmerman, who is an experienced Rootsweb List Administrator, with years of experience. You can create an account, from that web page, and, search for other genealogical, or other, groups that may interest you, or, you can subscribe to the mailing list, directly, by sending an email message to main+subscribe@Scotland-Genealogy.groups.io Please subscribe, and, post an introductory message, stating your lineage, and, any queries that you have. 3. Hi Alexander There are a lot of family trees on Ancestry a Jonathan Kearsley/ Dr Jonathan Kearsley not sure if this is the person you're looking for. While I know his descendants well I know nothing of his ancestors. I believe the Kearsleys originated in the Durham, England area; a few broke off and moved to Scotland as did his family. Jonathan was born in 1718 & left Scotland when in his early twenties, cutting all family ties. We don't know his parents or any family members. We don't know where he lived. We do know he was well educated and came from a strict Presbyterian background. To start I am working with the assumption the family didn't go any farther north than Edinburgh or Glasgow. His family Bible was printed in Edinburgh (if that indicates anything) so I'm starting to look in southern Scotland. I'm hoping for a birth or christening record ca 1718, maybe a family history with a noticeable gap or an historian that may remember a missing family member leaving home after a feud. It goes without saying that if you have leads in another part of Scotland I I want to hear those as well. I'm trying to contact genealogical societies, libraries, mailing lists & other groups to get the word out. It's a long shot, I know. I have also started a "one-name" study for Kearsleys through The Guild and hope eventually, through DNA testing, to get enough participants, to compare Keasleys in northern England & the United States with ones in Scotland. I need men with the Kearsley surname willing to do Y-chromosome testing. I have set up a Kearsley study with Family Tree DNA and welcome your participation. Please contact me about this. If you have already had a Y-DNA testing I can easily pull it into my study. . Please contact me with any information, or questions you might have or if you have any better suggestions as to how to approach this. I know there is someone out there who can break this wide open. 3. Hello again. Someone from the list very nicely pointed out a significant typo I made in my previous email. I wrote that Jonathan Kearsley emigrated to the US ca 1837 when in fact he emigrated ca 1737. I am very sorry for the confusion. Alexandra

    1. [SCOTLAND-ROOTS] DNA and Family Funder matches.
    2. KENNETH CAMPBELL via
    3. Hi all I am seeking Y DNA and Family Finder matches with the following families listed below. The names to match are mine as K. CAMPBELL, my nephew as L. J. CAMPBELL and my female first cousin Frances INNESS especially in Australia. The family names I am trying to match are as follows. Duncan CAMPBELL B. c1832 on the Isle of Mull and married to Mary McCLEAN5 in Snizort, Inverness, The family including 6 children came to Victoria, Australia on the Allison 1853 and had more children here. Duncan died in Stawell Victoria in 1886. Their eldest daughter Mary married Thomas CAMERON in Victoria in 1856 and they had 4 children at least before Thomas and at least a son Duncan went to New Zealand and died there. Thomas died in 1910 and Duncan in 1916. When father Thomas died he had 12 children, 7 males and 5 females and I believe some of the, were born in Mew Zealand. I am interested mainly in eldest daughter Mary B. 1861 in Victoria and what happened to her. Another family is MORGAN, once again mainly in Australia. I have a Y DNA37 cllose match Clifton Roger MORGAN in Nth. Carolina NC un USA so this means my male line is actually MORGAN. If you think you can help, please check our names in your Y DNA and Family Finder matches. Lex Campbell,Sydney, Australia.
