The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia, September 13, 2019 McGregor(McGill), Jane Craig Age 92, passed away September 9, 2019 in her home in Rockingham, Born in Broughty Ferry, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth McGill (Craig). She was predeceased by her brother, Robert; and her sister, Elizabeth; and her ever loving husband of 56 years, James, who passed away on June 20, 2019. She is survived by her sister, Mary Martin (John); and her son, Robert James McGregor (Allison). Jane received her degree from the University of Aberdeen and graduated with distinction. Following graduation she moved to London and worked in the civil service. After a year in that role she decided to immigrate to Canada. In 1957, she took the position of Phys. Ed. teacher at Point Grey Secondary School in Vancouver. The following year, she met the love of her life, James "Hamish" McGregor from Helmsdale, Scotland. They were married in 1963 at her Uncle Sandy McGill's home in Connecticut. Following this, they moved from Vancouver to Nova Scotia, where Jane accepted a teaching position at BC Silver School. Jane had a passion for her work in education. She went on to be the Principal of Fairview Elementary School on Main Avenue. She then went to work for the Halifax County School Board, where she held the position of Sub-System Supervisor for Bedford, Sackville, Waverley, until her retirement in 1988. Jane truly loved her work and her involvement with various communities, schools and staff. After retirement, she volunteered at Camp Hill Hospital where she played accordion for patients. Jane loved to knit and earned the designation of Master Knitter. Her other interests included, reading, keeping a daily journal, gardening and driving. Cremation has taken place. An event to celebrate the lives of both Jane and James McGregor will be held at their home on Sunday, October 6th from 1-4 p.m.
