Pat - From your reference to Kirriemuir, I think it is probable that what you are looking for is the village of Balinshoe, on the east side of Scotland a couple of miles west of Forfar and about 15 miles north of Dundee. The town of Kirriemuir is 2-3 miles west of Balinshoe. Not anywhere near the Isle of Tiree I'm afraid. The Parish of Kirriemuir might be the place to start.
