    1. [SCOTS~GEN] DRUMMOND in Hammersmith, England
    2. My gggrandmother, Sophia DRUMMOND, (b. abt. 1840-50?) came to the United States as a nanny to the Gardner/Binns family in 1869 but was registered as their daughter. Thomas COPPINGER bought her indenture, and they got married in Nebraska. In the 1910 U.S. census record, Sophie says her father was from Scotland. We've had little luck finding the Drummonds in Hammersmith, England where she was supposed to be from. Thought that perhaps someone on the Scotland end might recognize the family. Our story was that little Sophie was 9 years old when she came over. Don't know now if that was true--she seemed to have played fast and easy with her age on the later census records. She was also supposed to have come from a very poor family of 9+ children; because they had no money to feed all of them, she came over indentured. Now we don't know if this is true or not either. ARGHHHH. Can you please help? Nancy Merrill Sayed
