    3. Yes I am on both. I have traced the line to North Carolina circa 1694, and some said he was in Virginia in the 1670's. There was a Craig Oats in Warwick County in 1637. One source I had been reading said the Oates name appeared through out Scots History. There are two possible counties he might have been in during the time of Bacon's Rebellion and that is York and Warwick. I have posted a messages to both and have not heard from the York List. He left Virginia to keep from being hung, he supposedly was an acquaintance of Col. Nathaniel Bacon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janelle" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 20, 2001 11:02 PM Subject: Re: [SCOTS~GEN] RE:Oats Hi, Did you try www.rootsweb.com under Mailing Lists and Surnames "O" to see whether there is an Oats/Oates Mailing List?
