New to the list. We are looking for information on my husband's great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. If anyone has any coinciding information, it would be great! Great-great-grandparents: Bernard Naughton who was married to Peggy (Margaret?) McDonach--they emigrated from Ireland to Scotland during the Famine. There is no county listed on any of the paperwork we have that has been passed down thru family members--we are beginning to wonder if they "quietly escaped" from Ireland! And, if so, we really don't care! We would like just to find a county. Great-grandparents: Michael Naughton and Mary McAvoy. They were married on April 10, 1864 (possibly 1863) in Coatbridge in Old Monkland. In 1881 British Census, they lived at 15 Hope Street, Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. They had 6 children: James, Michael, John, Mary Ann, Bernard Aloysius, and Hugh. (The Bernard listed here is the grandparent listed below. ) In 1940 when Bernard Aloysius died, he reportedly had left a brother Hugh in Scotland. So, Hugh.....are you out there somewhere? Or are your children out there somewhere?! Grandparents: Bernard Aloysius Naughton and Mary Currie. They were married in Kirkintilloch in RC Cathedral on April 15, 1898. Bernard was born in Newmains, Lanark County, Wishaw, Scotland. Mary was born in Alexandria, Dunbarton County. Bernard's birth certificate reads "McNaughton" but they went by Naughton. They came to the U.S. in 1906 and had 11 children with the first five being born in Scotland. Children: Mary Ann, Catherine L., Margaret Elizabeth, Michael, Bernard Leo, John J., Theresa, Vincent Patrick, Leona Helen, James Francis, and Rita Mae. We are hitting a brick wall at this point with information on Michael and Mary (great-grandparents) and where they were born in Ireland and the same with the great-great-grandparents. Sure would welcome any ideas or help. Many thanks! Jim and Renee
