    3. Hi there My question is please can someone tell me re FINLAY MCRAE below a Corporal what war would he have been in the UK or could he have just been in the army reserves if they had any then. His son John was born in 1780 so Finlay would have been alive then. Thanks for reading this Judy in Canada I have this information 'Finlay McRae, that is Finlay Dubh, or black Finlay McRae, corporal in the british army, was called the Black Corporal simply because he was so very dark and not because he belonged to that branch of the Clan known as the black McRaes. The Corporal had three brothers, John Farquhar and Duncan who had gone to North Carolina some time before the revolution. Back in Kintail the Corporal had married a rich lowland woman and had left her a widow with three sons, Old John, Farquhar and /Young John.' 3. Hi, I was interested in your Finlay McRae. I have a 3great grandmother Catherine McRAE (married Angus McDONALD) born Kintail about 1805/6 She was 45y in 1851 census. I am trying to find her parents. - think she died around 1853 (the time of the Knoydart Clearances - Angus was a Shepherd there) so cannot find death which would give her parents perhaps. It seems Angus married again 1854. This is a brick wall at the moment, so thought perhaps you knew something about the Kintail McRAES??? Like to hear from you, Regards Janet (from the garden city of Christchurch, NZ) -----Original Message----- From: Hassall [mailto:rhassall@axion.net] Sent: Friday, 4 October 2002 12:25 p.m. To: SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: FINLAY MCRAE of Kintail a CORPORAL in the BRITISH ARMY Hi there My question is please can someone tell me re FINLAY MCRAE below a Corporal what war would he have been in the UK or could he have just been in the army reserves if they had any then.
