I am seeking info on some MacLeans who arrived in Nova Scotia in 1801 aboard the ship The Sarah. William MacLean (who was only 10 at the time) was born somewhere in Scotland and was traveling with some other MacLeans who were grouped with his name on the passenger list. We are trying to find out with some degree of certainty who William's parents were and where they were from. The passenger list says Kilmorach, but that covers quite a large territory. If his parents were with him on the ship, his father was either William or Donald; and his mother would have been either Mary or Margaret. No one in Pictou County seems to know what happened to the older MacLeans noted above when they got off the ship - we have searched and posted for over 5 years now. All we know about William (the boy) is his descendants - we are seeking his ancestors. The Scottish naming patterns don't help right now as we do not have accurate birthdates for William's (the boy's) children. We know all of their names, just don't have birthdates on all of them. We are aware also, that not all vital statistics were kept during those early years. We have even made posts to see if someone was willing to do newspaper lookups from the years 1801 thru 1815 for a fee, with no luck. We were hoping that there would be newspaper stories telling the fate of the passengers after they disembarked in Pictou Harbor in 1801. Any suggestions or assistance is greatly appreciated.
