I am new to this list and doing research in Scotland. I am from Connecticut in the U.S. and am sorry to say I know little of Scotland, I surely need a lot of help. The family I'm researching for info on is William John Archibald and his wife Hannah MacDonald. William was born in Scotland about 1870 and was in the Army. His wife Hannah was born about 1884 Scotland. They were married Scotland about 1905 and had four children all born Bridgen, Glasgow, Scotland who were; William John Archibald born ??? Irvin Archibald born abt 1909 Elizabeth Archibald born abt 1910 Henry MacDonald born abt 1915 I don't know when they came to the U.S. but it must have during the the 15 year period between 1915 to 1930. Hannah may have came over with the children first and her husband came at a later date. Does anyone know of this family or have suggestion on where I should look as I know nothing about researching in Scotland. Any help is appreciate! Thank you. John
Hi John, Greetings from Scotland, will try to give you some help. The ancestors you mention were all born after 1855 and therefore should have official birth certificates, registration of events was compulsary after 1855 in Scotland. Try www.scotlandspeople.org which is an excellent site that lets you view the records for a small fee. To narrow the search down looks like they came from Bridgeton which is a district of Glasgow and would be under the parish of Lanark Please do not hesitate to contact me direct if you need further advice regards billy
