    3. The postcode site that is linked to Freebies for Genealogists returns all addresses with the same postcode. One postcode normally covers a street or part of a street and up to 50 houses can have the same postcode. Regarding the split numbers I can only guess as I have no detailed knowledge of the area. My guess is that these are fairly large properties that have been subdivided in to smaller units and that 3/1 etc refers to Number 3, Unit 1 Hope this helps. >Good evening, John: > > >Could you explain why, when I'm looking for 3 Laing Terrace, Hawick, >Roxburghshire, I get a list of addresses as follows: >2/1 Laing Terrace >3/1 Laing Terrace >1a Laing Terrace >1b Laing Terrace >1c Laing Terrace >1d Laing Terrace >1e Laing Terrace >2/2 Laing Terrace >2/3 Laing Terrace >3/2 Laing Terrace >3/3 Laing Terrace ?? > > >I was looking for the home of two sisters, Mary and Margaret Sanderson, who >lived at 3 Laing Terrace.
