Mel Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, is on the south side of the (estuary ) Firth of Forth. On the north side is the county of Fife which ends at the next big estuary Firth of Tay. On the sea cost, half way between the two firths is St. Andrews. In 1678 -9 there was widespread persecution of Covenanters. James Sharp, Archbishop of St. Andrews strongly supported this persecution. Magus Muir (moor) is about 3 miles West of St.Andrews and lies between the road to Cupar (on the north) and the road to Ceres (on the south). Archbishop Sharp and his daughter were in a coach crossing the moor when they were met by a group of covenanters. Since he was their declared enemy they seized the opportunity and killed him despite his daughters efforts to save him. .Jim McArthur
