It is disappointing to see there's been no "bun rush" of replies to Toni's messages, which described this family: > Generation No. 1 > > 1. JOSEPH1 SMART was born Abt. 1838 in Carmyllie, Forfar, Scotland1. He > married MARY MUNRO. She was born Abt. 1841 in St. Vigeans, Forfar, > Scotland1. > > Children of JOSEPH SMART and MARY MUNRO are: > 2. i. MARGARET2 SMART, b. 12 May 1861, Saint Vigeans, Angus, Scotland. > ii. MARY SMART, b. 24 May 1859, Saint Vigeans, Angus, Scotland3 > iii. ANN SMART, b. 29 September 1867, Saint Vigeans, Angus, Scotland5. > iv. ROBERT MUNRO SMART, b. 05 August 1874, Arbroath, Angus, Scotland7. > v. JOSEPH SMART, b. 18 September 1862, Saint Vigeans, Angus, Scotland8. As there is no mention of the earlier ancestry, I assume that the four parents of Joseph and Mary are not yet known to Toni. Listers may be interested to note that these should be readily proved, because Joseph and Mary died after 1855 the date of compulsory regisration. The Deaths entries are packed with good data including the names of the parents of the deceased, giving mothers' maiden surnames. It's just possible, that the eight oldies in the previous generations might also be determined in the same way. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The place to find these Deaths entries is NEW REGISTER HOUSE, EDINBURGH. Either have someone sit at one of the 99 keyboards there, or ditto in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee etc main towns. Or....... <buy service thru ORIGINS on- line.> You might prefer to do that work more cheaply, at a Family History Centre. I would not, as it is very heavy going, because: 1. Few FHCs hold the Civil Reg Deaths Indexes, you must order these in advance. 2. The LDS versions of those Indexes are limited to a narrow date range. 3. After you make a "hit" in the Index you next consult the Deaths Register. These are NOT held in FH Centres, but are available cheaply, ordered ahead of use. 4. The Registers do not cater for recent dates. The search process involves at least two sessions of working at a reader, plus two periods awaiting postal delivery of the ordered microforms. A half- year may intervene. Don't give up! Cheers...... ALISTAIR M. CAMERON, A.A.G.R.A. also known as ALEC acameron@hinet.net.au **My Ancestral File No. is TO4M-WJ**
