Hi, I am hoping to find out how available / if it exists would be an index to the 1861 census? I have a few Scottish ancestors who seem to have moved about a bit / emigrated / gone to a parallel dimension about that time. I am in a small town in Australia, and thought I'd find out a bit of background before making a big trip. The nearest LDS FHC is closed for the school holidays :-( and I guess I am impatient to formulate my next strategic plans. The GRO site says there was one, but not much more than that. If it makes any difference, the places would be in Ayrshire and possibly Wigtown. Any help would be appreciated.
