Hi Since there are members of this list who are know a lot about the Archbishops of St Andrews, possibly someone can direct me to some further information. Cardinal David BEATON, Archbishop of St Andrews, was murdered in his castle. The people involved were later tried for treason. I have seen a brief note about the trial in a book I found in the Hay-Fleming?? library during a visit to St Andrews. I presume that a more complete trial record exists somewhere, and I was wondering where I should look. What I am most interested in is the names of the 18, and the details about their punishment. I believe all were executed, but I was wondering if there was a list of what land was seized. John KNOX was involved in this, but was only imprisoned. Probably because he was not one of those who occupied the castle after the murder of Beaton. I have reason to believe that one of those executed was a SEGGIE. My direct ancestor. I believe that there was land seized at Guardbridge (near St Andrews) that ended up owned by the HAIG family who sited a distillery there. I believe that there was land seized on the Tay downstream from Perth that was later used by HAYs. Possibly on both shores of the river. There may be a third parcel of land towards Inverness.
