Jane *** The National Register of Archives (Scotland) is a register of the locations of archives held in local archives and private hands throughout Scotland. It's address is: West Register House, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh EH2 4DF. *** The National Archives of Scotland is the national central repository of nationally-owned archives (mainly govt. and other public records) plus deposited local and private records. It was formerly known as the Scottish Record Office. The NAS's address is H.M. General Register House, Princes Street, Edinburgh EH1 3YY NEITHER is the Registrar General's which has all the BDMs. As to the list of prisoners, the most likely source will be the Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, which has volumes running as far forward as 1691.
