    1. 1841 Census - Glasgow
    2. Don Gregg
    3. My great great grandparents, John FERGUSON (1783-1862) and Helen CLARK (1781-1858), emigrated from Scotland to Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1847-48. They were married at Dron, Perthshire, on 8 June 1807. Their 7 children were christened at Perth between 1808 and 1821. I have searched for John and Helen in the 1841 Census for Perthshire so far with no success. I have recently discovered that on 25 May 1842 they applied to the New Zealand Company for a free passage. Their address was given as 81 High St, Glasgow (between the 'High' and the 'St' is something that looks like 'Inr' and may be an abbreviated 'Inner'). However they did not leave for New Zealand until November 1847 This has raised the probability that I may have been looking in quite the wrong place in the 1841 Census. I have no record of where they were between 1821 and 1842. I would be delighted if someone with access to the 1841 census for Glasgow could check if a John and Helen FERGUSON were living at 81 High Street. I had intended to pursue this myself through our local Family History Centre but it is about to close for 6 months or so due to building operations. Don Gregg in Tasmania, Australia.
