    3. -Hi Robert! Yes I believe we are connected! I have the same children listed for James and Janet with the addition of Sarah who was born 1838. According to the information I have Archibald was born in the states 1829. I don't believe James and Janet stayed in the states very long.. John was born c 1832 in Canada. I am curious to know how you know they went to the states first. Is this from research or from family history knowledge? Your marriage certificate could well be the correct one.. I was only taking a stab in the dark. According to family history Janet was married at about 19 years of age and I have her being born c 1807 as she died October 8, 1885 at age 78. There is a Francis Reid who is a descedant of James and Janet which would make the marriage certificate the more likely one. Ther certificate I have is a marriage between James Reid, joiner in Glasgow and Janet Reid residing there April 6, 1828. Would it be possible that this is another entry for the same marriage?? What does your certificate say? I would love to have what information you have. I would also like to know what information came from family stories etc.. I have searched endlessly on Scot's origin for the death of Janet's parent's as according to famiy tradition she was orphaned.. I thought that way I might establish parentage but can't find anything.. I don't really have a year for their death but did searches for Reid deaths over a period of time. The story was that James was a Scottish Laird in Edinburgh. However, it does state that Janet was raised by her grandmother in Glasgow.. It also says that James was trained a a civil engineer ( maybe this is an embellishment of joiner?) but had always wanted to come to America so his father gave him his share of the estate and let him go. It also says that he persuaded Janet to marry him and that they came over in a sailing vessel which took 3 months to cross the ocean and they settled near Lyndoch Ontario. Margaret Reid is my great-grandmother.. How do you fit in? This is so exciting!! I am in British Columbia, Canada by the way.
