Hello, all, At first I thought it would be a simple thing to list the inmates of the above facilities, keeping in with the spirit of Liz, who has done so much for this list, and Betty WINTERSTEEN on 2 different lists, but when I ran off the entire Govan asylum census, it took 56 pages in which to do it, with an average of 15-18 names per page. There are approximately 350 persons classified as lunatics and another 500 or so who were classified as paupers. (I have a vested interest in this Asylum, as one of my BAIRD ancestresses would be committed there in 1886, so I thought to others a favor and send the names.) However, I don't want to take up the time of those of you who have to pay for the service by sending something you can't use or are not interested in, so I will do this, instead: I will be glad to look up a name or family on my lists. I will also do the same for the Glasgow Royal Asylum in Gartnavel, the pages of which only came to 48! There are some interesting names on these lists and also, since place of birth is 90% of the time listed, I have seen some "born at sea" entries, as well. For instance, an interesting name is a David YELLOWLEES, born in Stirling, who was the MD in charge of the Glasgow Royal Asylum and an Eliza SPENCE, b in Otley , York, England, was listed as his m-in-law. An example of the "born-at-sea" is W A LIDDELL, Jr, whose father was an MD in the Govan Poorhouse. Other interesting names are: IMLAH, George MERRILEES, Jessie BREACKINRIDGE, Elizabeth FRIER, Margaret FRANCH, Thomas Mc CANDLISH, Janet WEIR, Joan FORREST TEMPLETON McINDOE, Mary GOURLAY GOODLAD, Joseph,BESSOCK, b in England ROBERTSON, Agnes McKINLAY KIRKWOOD JOHNSTONE, Rebecca PROUDFOOT I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Many of the names have Ireland given as place of birth. I think the complaints will pour in if you ask on the list, so please ask me privately unless the name is one you feel for which many are searching. Hats off to you, Betty for your very painstaking work. I can really appreciate how much time it must have taken you! Lynn Prettyman in Baltimore, Maryland, USA marylindsay@worldnet.att.net
