Peggy - All I know is that the official PARISH records (OPR) at the General Record Office in Edinburgh are ONLY for the Church of Scotland parishes. There may be SOME extra info., but I don't know the details. This is before national registration was introduced in 1855 (?) - after that ALL citizens were registered at the GRO. I have heard that the Catholic Church kept their own records - presumably Baptism and Marriage, possibly burial (?). I'm afraid I have no idea how to access this information. I suppose it depends how much you know - if you know the (Catholic) Parish you could write to the Parish Church. ??? Ask on one of the Genealogy Mailing Lists like Scotland-Genweb-L at Rootsweb or Scots-Origins at egroups Hope this helps a little? -- Don McEwan West Lothian SCOTLAND Jings, Crivvens & Help Ma Boab.! <mailto:don.mcewan@virgin.net>
