Hi Listers I am researching James DAVIE who was a Silversmith/Goldsmith in Greenock, Renfrew during the 1800's. So far, I have been unable to find out where he was born or where he died and I have searched most everywhere. Wondering whether there would be a list of Silversmiths/Goldsmiths somewhere that would give a clue as to when he became an Apprentice in this trade - or something along those lines! I was given some information that points to the possibility that James DAVIE was the son of Thomas DAVIE, also a Silversmith/Goldsmith in both Edinburgh and Greenock. Thomas DAVIE had a son, James around the right *age* and perhaps James followed in his Father's footsteps. Does anyone have any idea where I can find information on Silversmiths/Goldsmiths between, say, 1780 and 1850?
