I have taken my line to 1812, but relatives told me that the GAY name was actually at one time GAYRE and they hailed from Scotland. Is there anyone doing research on this family. My grandmother Anna Mabel GAY was born 28/Nov/1906 in Decatur Georgia she moved to Midland City Alabama when she was 6 or 12. They were in Dothan Alabama before then. All of her people came from Laurens County Georgia, Her greatgrandfather John J. A. GAY born 8/May/1812 he died 22/Mar/1874 his father I do not have a clue as to who he might be. He married Elizabeth Clark in 1839. What clan would these family members be associated with.
