Kay, Unfortunately, there are many birth records that do not appear in Scots Origins, or the OPR's. Prior to 1855 (Civil Registration started then) Old Parish Records only recorded the births of adherents of the Church of Scotland. If your ancestors were adherents of any other (or no) church - United Presbyterian, Free Church,Methodist, Catholic, whatever, you will have to locate the parish records for those churches, if they are still available. The practice pre-1855 for marriages banns being called, was that regardless of which, if any, church you were an adherent, your banns were called in the local parish of the Church of Scotland. However, any issue from that marriage would only be recorded for adherents of the Church of Scotland. I have the same problem as my ancestors were adherents of the Associated Secessionist (later United Presbyterian). I can find the marriage banns, but no births of any of the children. Very frustrating. You do not mention when he emigrated to Australia. If it was post 1881 you might find some info on him in the 1881 census, which is available on CD which facilitates searching the whole of the U.K. for any particular name. Hope you have good luck.
