    1. Searching for family who resided in Invergordon

    3.  I am a new member of this list and wish to inquire from members of the list how I should go about researching in the community of Invergordon. In the 1920's my grandparents departed Scotland for Canada and left their oldest child with my Granny's Mom. After the death of my Granny in 1970, my family lost touch with my Aunt and her family and we are now trying to make contact with them. We are facing two obstacles in our search. The first is the surname of the family, and the second is where they may now be residing. It is thought that the surname is MacLaine, however the pronunciation is Muck-a-lane according to my Mother and her siblings and we are not sure what the correct spelling would be. The family were living in Invergordon, Scotland in the mid 1950's. If anyone on this list could give us some suggestions as to where to begin searching for information about the family we would be most grateful. Is there a roots web list that would encompass the Invergordon area? Are school registration records available on line? The family consisted of two sons and three daughters who must have attended school and church. My Mother and her siblings are all now in their late 60's to mid 80's and are most eager to know if their oldest sibling is still living, and if so where she resides and would welcome any information about their nephews and nieces. All suggestions are most welcome. Regards, Garry Andrew Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
