Hi Everyone, I am a new subscriber to this mailing list; the main "brick walls" in my research at present are: CHALMERS My 3G Grandparents were James CHALMERS (Occupation: Land Factor) and Agnes PARKER (Occupation: Packer). I have no dates for them, other than the fact that both are listed as deceased by the time of their son, James', marriage in 1861. The younger James is listed as having been born in Perth, and from various sources (census, marriage certificate) I calculate his date of birth as some time 1834 - 1836. He married Janet BISSET at Monifieth, Angus on 20th February, 1861; at that time he was a Private Soldier in the Scots Grays, though by 1881 he was a Foreman Mason and living at Dundee. Any relevant Chalmers data would be very gratefully received! MCLANDERS I've managed to trace my MCLANDERS line back to David MCLANDERS; he was my 5G Grandfather. He married Elspeth MELVILLE on 22nd August, 1778 at Kirkmichael, Perth, and I am descended from their son Alexander MCLANDERS who was born in 1785 at Pitcarmick, Perth. However, I have never been able to find any MCLANDERS references earlier than David MCLANDERS' marriage in 1778. Does anyone have any information about the MCLANDERS origins, or where might be a good place to look for David MCLANDERS birth details? TOSH My TOSH ancestry dates back (so far!) to James TOSH and Margaret MCGREGOR of Dundee. James TOSH was born circa 1817, married Margaret MCGREGOR on 29th May, 1840 at Dundee, and apparently his occupation was as a Seaman. He died at sea in 1878. I am descended via their son, James, who was born in Dundee circa 1842. Any data about James TOSH or Margaret MCGREGOR would be most welcome! Cheers! Sue
