    3. G'day Lorraine, Firstly, thanks for emailing me. This John Stoddart that you refer to was my N.1 choice for a long time. He married Mary Brown in Dunblane in circa 1814. They had a son named Peter boirn 1795 who, as I say , I thought he was my G/G/Ggrandfather until the wheels fell off the whole thing because only recently I found out that this Peter married one Margaret Robb. This of course is what prompted me to go back the message boards. I have been searching for this Peter Stoddart for about three years now and just about every avenue I have tried has finished up a dead end. This includes his marriage certificate which, would you believe it, does not show the parents of the bride and groom. This in itself is quite unusual as a I understood it this was supposed to be. Although one Scottish gentleman I spoke to, and he tells me that he is an ex a genealogist, says that this sometimes happens and mostly it us to the minister of the church especially prior to 1855. However having said all that I have only yesterday discovered another likely contender and that is Peter Stoddart born 1808 in Lanark. His father was Matthew Stoddart. The age is about right as Peter Passed away in Stenhousemuir in 1875. The only thing I get a little concerned about is the Scottish naming system. My ancesters seemed to have done this pretty well all the through. If Matthew's son Peter turns ouit to be my g/g/g/ the the naming system fell over from there on as there has never been a Matthew in the family. Of course this doesn't mean a lot but does cast a shadow of doubt. The big problem is that I can't find out who this particular Peter Stoddart married, when or who ??? So you see I have the samre problems as most other family tree researchers.
