I'm afraid your search in Scotland is impossible until you can find some detail to identify your Miller from the thousands in every parish. One possible place to search would be the Calendar of Confirmations [re: wills and service of heirs] which is set up in decades and alphabetical. You don't need the parish for that and heirs overseas are sometimes noted with their current location. From there you can begin to gather other data. But you are probably looking for dates too early for that source [??] Most of my work was in the 1800s. You could make a very specific query of the National Archives staff.
