Hi everyone, I am trying to help a friend locate some information concerning their DUIGAN (DUGAN) family. They have a William DUIGAN born Feb 9 1834 Ireland married Dec 28 1863 in Ayr Scotland to Mary S VANCE. It was on his marriage certificate that mentions that William was in the military as Corporal 41st Regt. Barracks. Does anyone have any insight on this military branch and if I can find out from this any further info concerning William , especially when and where he died. Thanks in advance Lara
Hi Lara, The 41st, or The Welsh, Regiment was renamed The Welch Regiment in 1920. There have been so many amalgamations over the last few years that I'm not sure what is left, but I imagine they are now part of the Royal Regiment of Wales. There's a very useful site at http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/ where you can navigate to WO (War Office) records and many other useful lists [there is no need to log in if you only want to search]. You may find your man there. If not, the PRO od the National Army Museum may be able to help. Happy hunting, Jim Balmer
