Dear list, it is one of my pleasures, to try to help people to trace ancestors, but I would ask that they briefly mention the places that they have already looked. Every now and then I annoy someone by giving them info that they already have. Cheers Lorraine in Mandurah W Aus
Hi Alice, I don't suppose that you have a Hector Urquhart among your people , do you??? He was born circa 1849 in Berwick and married Catherine Cust Reid in Bonhill in 1873. Don't like my chances but if you don't ask then ..... Hi List, I really appreciated hearing about finding a cousin. I also just found a cousin who I had been looking for 2 1/2 years in WA, Australia. I had posted several notes over the years, with no luck. Two weeks ago someone gave me the name of someone living in WA. I sent off an E-mail and had a reply two days later, and he had already gone to his local Library, and had come up with names. And within the next couple of days would go to the local cemetery to see what he could come up with. I quickly responded with the name I thought was his. A couple of days later I received an E-mail with more names that we thought were part of my Uncles family. To make a long story short, he went and found the Obituary's of the most likely Uncle, and you guessed it he found him. He called the funeral director, and got names of next of kin. This man has already spoken on the phone with members of my family. My letter to them with all sorts of information of the Scottish family members. I am waiting to hear through snail mail, which takes time. I began working on genealogy 2 1/2 years ago and 1 year ago SEPT 10, 2001 I left to meet a 1/2 sister in Scotland I did not know I had until several months into working on my ancestry. All these stories take place because of all the kind people on these web sites, who go the mile to help people. Keep up all the good work, it certainly will be appreciated. Joanne (USA)

It's an amazing feeling - I've been there . Mine happened stateside and although I haven't met him in person as yet, I have this feeling that I want to meet him & his wife (who I correspond & share with) in person. Lots more good luck to you and your new found cousin. It so happens that we share Byrnes/Burns/Birns/Bourn ancestors. And I have no information for her father, James SHAW, except that he married Agnes PARKER of Lancashire in 1785. So he might have been from Lancashire also. Jean

I want to visit there also in 2004 when I make my journey to my ancestor's homelands. As many of you may already know, a "brock" is a badger in England. Neat, huh? Guess I am a bank full of badgers! Here is what I have: Andrew CHALMERS was born about 1744 in Ayshire. He married Jean CRAIG (b. about 1745 in Ayshire) 03 January 1765 in Dalry. Their son Andrew CHALMERS was born 10 May 1779 in Dykeshead, Dalry, Ayshire (the first son born and named Andrew also died in infancy). "Andrew CHALMERS and Ann SIMPSON of Aandrossan Parish gave in their names for proclamation of banns 29 October 1803." Their daughter was Jean "Jane" CHALMERS was born/baptized 23 February 1806 in Dykeshead, Dalry, Scotland. If anyone has some Chalmers from Dalry in their family history, I can send the other eight siblings of Andrew CHALMERS and Jean CRAIG. Hope this helps! Jean
There were a few KERR families in Leven, Fife in the 1800s. You can check them out on the IGI- just put in KERR, Scotland and you will get a long list. Doreen
Hi Tina, Sorry - I've checked through my "names" and can't find any data on file for the people you mention. Good luck with the search!
