Hi, Ivy. According to the Parloc program, Cambuslang is 2 miles from Kenmuir and 2.5miles from shettleston, Lanarkshire, and 4.9 miles from Glasgow. I hope that helps in some way. best wishes Lorraine in W Aus

If anyone who knows anything about Cambuslang is on the List, would be grateful to hear from them. I have JAMES SIMPSON, an Engineer's Fitter, marrying CAROLINE JOHNSTON on November 28, 1918 in Blythswood District. I need to know just where this would be. They had a daughter, MATILDA ANN SIMPSON (we always thought it was just Ann) born at 66 Lightburn Road, CAMBUSLANG, Lannark. There were two other children, ALEXANDER and HENRY HERBERT but we have no details of their birth. For passport reasons we urgently need to find birth of JAMES SIMPSON and would love to know more about the Scots roots in any case. There is a family story that JAMES SIMPSON had a brother ALEXANDER connected with the Royal Navy, perhaps. Can anyone help, please? Thank you. Ivy Trott in Fish Hoek, Cape Province, South Africa.
Yes, I found that when I got out my A to Z, but - oh, well, family legends! We now find that an aunt was MATILDA ANN SIMPSON, born December 27, 1923 at 66 Lightburn Road, Cambuslang, Lannark, Scotland. Father JAMES SIMPSON, Engineer's Fitter, Mother CAROLINE JOHNSTON. James and Caroline were married on November 28, 1918 in Blythswood District, Glasgow. We actually found a 92 year old uncle living in Pretoria who had Matilda's birth certificate, but not his own! Can anyone guide me to the Cambuslang records? Unfortunately my drive for the CDs has decided to go on strike, so until the Fundi calls I can't look at my 1881 or Vital Records. Just hoping somebody knows where they are on line - or belongs to the Simpson family. Thanks for all the help over Arbroath, Andrea and Noel and others who sent info. This was a complete red herring, however, as the last person buried in the Abbey was in the 1990s. Definitely not great-grandma Simpson. Go well. Ivy Trott in South Africa.
Hi Ivy It maybe Arbroath ?? She would have been the mother of JAMES McLEAN SIMPSON whom we understand was born in or near Aberdeen. Haven't been able to find Abrath as a village or town in my A to Z road map, so I am hoping that somebody can tell me something about it and how to access the registers for this burial. Of course the name may have been mangled by collective memory! Any suggestions for research would be gratefully received. Thank you. Ivy Trott, Fish Hoek, Cape Province, South Africa.

Does anyone have access to the 1891 census onwards for the Old Monkland area of Lanark. I`m looking for my Scott ancestors. In the 1881 census they lived at 189 North square, Old Monkland. James and Elizabeth Scott were the parents and the kids were Annie, Thomas, Robert, Andrew, William, and John (my greatgrandfather). Any help would be most appreciated. thanks, William Glendinning Northern Ireland

JAMES McLEAN SIMPSON was born in Aberdeen c 1900. He came out to South Africa and joined Simmer & Jack Deep Mine in the Transvaal. Married CAROLINE JOHNSON, who was born in the Transvaal, and known as Granny Dolly. He died in 1984. James had brothers ALEXANDER and TOM and a sister ANN.
