Hi Does anyone have any information on or are related to CARRAILL's?? Please use all the variations of possible spelling. More specifically ROBERT CARRAILL , he married Alison BROWNHILL and came to Australia around 1851 on "Wellington". They had 5 children, and came from Haddington - I think - East Lothian, Scotland. If anyone has any information and can help me that would be great, or if you are related that's even better. If I can help anyone as well just let me know. Thanks for your help Nicole Page
This is clutching at straws I know, but if SKS could either look up a marriage for me, or alternatively suggest a website where I can check for myself. Marriage of Charles MURRAY circa 1850 and prior to an Anne (maiden name unknown) but Ann shown on the 1881 census to have been born in Somerset. I'm taking a chance here, as they could have married in Scotland, where Charles originated from, or indeed any part of the U.K. but searches in other avenues have proved fruitless. Best wishes and compliments of the season to one and all. Angela rick.maskell@ukonline.co.uk

Hi, Seeking information on the ancestry of Neill Kelly and wife Mary. They were born circa 1750 in Scotland [Isle of Skye - tradition], and immigrated to the Cape Fear River in North Carolina, U.S.A. They died prior to the year 1811 in Cumberland Co NC. If you have a Neill Kelly of this time period please contact my friend, V. K. I'm searching for information about Sophia Drummond (also Drummers, Drummie, in other documents). She was my gggrandmother. I'm sorry to give so much information, but have searched for years, and am hoping that even some little scrap may help us find my gggrandma's family. We know this about her: she was born January 1840, probably in England. On one Nebraska census report, it says her father was born in Scotland and her mother in England. On a scrap of a family bible, two lines under her name is handwritten the word Hammersmith--don't know if this has to do with her or not. She died 30 Dec 1926, and is buried in Oak Creek Cemetery in Raymond, Nebraska. The name of the ship she arrived on was The Weser. She came as a nanny to the children of the Gardner/Binns family; they all arrived 18 Oct 1869 into New York. The ship started in Bremen, and was of German registry, and picked them up in (probably) Liverpool, or Southampton. From the east they traveled to Nebraska City on train, then had to travel the rest of the way by covered wagon. Sophie is listed (mistakenly, as the captain's writing was hard to read) as: Arumma, Sophie 29 Paddington 69-1086 (this stands for the year, and the date of the ship's arrival). Later in 1891, Emily Binns, the mother of the children that Grandma Sophie was nanny to, went to England. When she returned, she brought back a woman who may have been a relative to Sophie. I have this information: RMS Teutonic Liverpool, England & Queenstown, Ireland to New York 27 May 1891 Columns represent: Name, Age, Sex, Calling, Country of which they are citizens (Nationality), Last Residence, Intended destination or location, Date and cause of Death, Location of Compartment or space occupied, Number of pieces of baggage, Transient or in transit or intending protracted sojourn. (Since there were no deaths on the voyage, that column was omitted below.) S. G. Drummond 27 F Serv't. Scotch Glasgow New York 2nd Cabin Rms. 2 permanent Emily Binns 61 F Wife English Liverpool Lincoln, Neb. 2nd Cabin Rms. 4 permanent She married Thomas Coppinger (originally from Hawkhurst, Kent, England) on 11 Dec 1876 in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE. They had two children: Richard Thomas Coppinger, b. 9 Jan 1878, and Maude Emily Coppinger, b. 5 Nov 1881. On the 1870 NE census, she is listed living with the Binns (misspelled Beens). Her name is spelled Sophie Drummers. On other documents she is listed as Drummie, Drummer, etc. On most, she is listed as Drummond. On census information, there are listed Dummies, Dimmies, etc. living by known family members of Sophie and Thomas. I don't know if they are related or not. Perhaps the census takers couldn't spell, or maybe this really was their name. I would be most grateful for any information about my gggrandmother's family. Thanks--Nancy Merrill Sayed
STITHAM I've been told this is a Scottish name. It is said that my ggggrandfather came from Scotland in 1785. But there are few Stithams on the internet, so I've found no place in the UK where they might have originated. Can someone give me a lead in my search for STITHAMS to US or Canada about 1785.??? I am researching my great grandfather's, James Forbes Taylor, family. He was born in New York City on September 15, 1849. He finally settled near Port Jervis, New York. I am trying to identify his father. According to the 1880 US census his father is listed as born in Scotland. No birthplace was mentioned. I am guessing that this Taylor family had several generations living in Scotland and that my great-great-grandfather left for America shortly before 1849. James Forbes is a name that was repeated in the family. Other names in the family are Joseph Levi, Carrie, Edwin Hurst, Jenny, and Willard James (All with the surname of Taylor). I know that the information that I have is very sparse. But I am hoping that someone might have the Taylor connection that I need. I would appreciate any information on my branch of the Taylor family. Jim Taylor of Warren, Ohio

Hello List, The 1864 Alford marriage record of William DALLAS and Helen GRASSICK shows his parents as George DALLAS and Helen MITCHELL. Helen was third daughter of James GRASSICK and Penelope ALLANACH aka Penelope STEWART; I have much on the GRASSICK side, looking to fill in on the DALLAS side. At the time of his marriage, William was a farm servant and his residence was given as Braehead in the Parish of Monymusk. The 1881 LDS census cd shows Braehead at Monymusk to be a farm of 200 acres arable with 6 farm servants then, so am (bad word ->) assuming that in 1864 William DALLAS was probably living there and employed as a farm servant. Several months ago, LDS site was showing the 1843 birth/christening record for William DALLAS at Forgue, Aberdeen. Now LDS no longer showing the Forgue record, but is showing an 1843 birth/christening record at Marnoch, Banff, with the same parents, but now his name given as "William DALLAS or MITCHELL". scotlandpeople site is showing Forgue record but the image is not available and has to be ordered; not showing is the Marnoch record. I will order the LDS microfilms of both locations to determine if there are any differences. Further, LDS not showing a marriage record for George DALLAS and Helen MITCHELL, nor any additional children for this couple. This, and the multiple name birth/christening record for William indicates (to me) his parents probably were not married (am assuming William's birth/christening record will indicate his status of legitimacy.) It is believed William DALLAS died sometime between 1866 (birth record of daughter Penelope DALLAS) and 1869 (wife Helen marries James GORDON at Udny, her status given as widow). However, after extensive search on scotlandpeople site, I am unable to locate a death record for William DALLAS or any possible variant or mispelling. My request: If anyone has 'easy' access to the 1851 Forgue and Marnoch or the 1861 Monymusk census records, I would like a lookup for William: whom was he residing with, were they family members, what was his status in the household (son, nephew, cousin, boarder, lodger, etc), or anything else that may be helpful in finding more about him, his family, and his life before marriage. Also, if anyone else is researching this DALLAS family or has any additional information about this William DALLAS or his parents George DALLAS and Helen MITCHELL, I would be delighted to know it. Many thanks for your help. Deb O'Reilly http://mywebpages.comcast.net/dcoreilly Midlothian, Virginia USA ps: I can do lookups for 1841 Alford, 1851 Glenbucket and 1861 Strathdon census records.
Has anyone heard of the surname FRODGAIN (I think that's how it is spelt). I am entering this on various Rootsweb lists as I am not entirely sure where the name originated from. My gt. grandmother Annie MORRISON b 1838 married John REYNOLDS in Australia and on some documents her middle name is entered as FRODGAIN and that name was passed down a generation and given to my Uncle, namely Terence Frodgain REYNOLDS, born around 1904. Any help gratefully appreciated. Angela rick.maskell@ukonline.co.uk

I was wondering if some kind person can help me. I am looking for the birth of a John MILL, 1843 in MARKINCH. I have looked on the Scotland peoples site but he doesn't appear to be there. I know he was adopted by a Dr and Mrs LANG and was brought up and educated in Tayport. I am trying to trace his real parents' names. He emigrated to Port Chalmers, New Zealand in 1862 on the 'Sarah Anne.' He married a Mary WILSON in 1863. Has anyone any ideas as to where else I can look. Regards Sally
