I'm new here so am relying on all of you experts to help me out if you can. I have two births and am trying to determine which one is the right connection for me so here goes: I'm looking for a John Neeson born in either 1864 or 1865 who had a father also named John Neeson who later on moved or lived in Ballybollen Antrim Ireland. This John I'm trying to trace down married a Jane Mulholland on 1 October 1887 in Ahoghill RC Church in Antrim. They had a daughter "Rose" born on 16, April 1888. On her birth certificate it shows father John living in Port of Glasgow, Scotland while the mother was in Aughtercloney, Antrim Irleland living with her parents. I'm sure he was in Scotland getting work as the family sometime between Rose's birth and 1889 emigrated to the U.S., but if he was he was most likely staying with family or relatives up there. So maybe one of you Neeson's out there will make this connection. Anyway this John (father to Rose) was my Great Grandfather! Now! as mentioned earlier the two births I'm coming up with for a possible match are as follows: 1.John Neeson born 12 May 1864 to John & Ann (McDermott) Neeson in Clyde,Lanark 2.John Neeson born 17 Jun 1865 to John & Helen (Laurie) Neeson in Barony Lanark So how do I go about finding out which one of these births connects to the rest of the story. With all these John Neeson's out there it gets quite confusing. I will anxiously be awaiting any replies on this matter and most of all HELP!! Sincere thanks, Margie
Dan Kennedy and Harriet McMillan are my great great great grandparents. They were both born in Scotland - Harriet born in Glasgow - abt. 1820 or earlier and married in 1830's. Thank you for your help. Angie

Wouldn't life be easier if it was possible to see all UK 19th century censuses ? it was indexed to cross counties and censuses ? it was on-line ? it was free ? It will be - but first we need more transcribers to help copy all these records to a computer file. This project is a global venture designed for family historians who would like to make a contribution to a great hobby If you are interested in helping or just learning more, please contact me

Could SKS advise me as to where and how I could find out when and where the following people died and are buried. The only info I have on these gg-grandparents are as follows: Peter Wells born 1825 to Peter and Mary Wells. Parish of Mousewald, co Dumfries. Married Agnes Mundell/Mundall Smith (not sure if Mundell was her maiden name and she was married before or not) on January 23, 1846 in Kirkbean, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. They had 3 known children; Peter born in 1850, Mary born 1852, and John born 1853 in the parish of Mousewald. There are rumours that there was at least one other child born of this union, possibly prior to 1850. Nothing at all is known of Agnes or her family before her marriage to Peter. As far as their deaths are concerned, It is only known that Peter was deceased before 1876 when his son John was married. But I would like to try and find out when and where both parents died and were buried. My sincerest gratitude for any information received Michelle Farley-Wilson Vermont USA

Hi Lara, The 41st, or The Welsh, Regiment was renamed The Welch Regiment in 1920. There have been so many amalgamations over the last few years that I'm not sure what is left, but I imagine they are now part of the Royal Regiment of Wales. There's a very useful site at http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/ where you can navigate to WO (War Office) records and many other useful lists [there is no need to log in if you only want to search]. You may find your man there. If not, the PRO od the National Army Museum may be able to help. Happy hunting, Jim Balmer
Hello, I am looking for anyone who may have relatives with this surname [McGugan/McGougan/McGoogan] in the North Knapdale area of Argyllshire during the mid-1700's and on to the present time. I am looking for information which may be in your family bible, or other documents, which you may have in your possession, concerning families with this surname in that area. Parish information during that time period was destroyed by fire as I have been told and is not in the Scottish Registry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John Lester
