Hi Pat, I did think of something what ever you do DON"T order all the individual records because I did for all 6 of my Lawson/Smith children and I got a copy of the register page which contained 4 of them, I paid for all 4 and I did get 4 copies of the same register page. I do notice now that they are not written as bapt. they are written as born, but with the correct birth date inserted. The others on the page say bapt this dat and born another date...Hum it just get curiousier and curiousier...Jani
Thought Id try again to see if anyone has a Peter Grant in their line. According to his naturalization papers in 1840 from NYhe was born in Inverness in Sept. 1809.(i have had people tell me he may have lied about his birthday ..you know take a couple of years off and that he said Inverness as people would have heard of it) He came to the US in 1833. I have looked at the LDS and I cannot find his parentage..I have no idea what ship he came over on, if he came alone, etc. i do not know what faith he was either. There is another Grant researcher from my line who has gone crazy combing everywhere for Peters ancestry and she has been unable to come up with anything...I am hoping someone here has a "missing" Peter Grant in their line that went to the US around 1833. Peter married in the US so I believe he was unmarried when he left Scotland. Thank you in advance. Michele R. Lockwood

Hi all, Isabella MCLEOD was born c 1816 Ardgay Rosshire, the daughter of Hugh MCLEOD and Margaret MCGREGOR. She was tried at Inverness Court of Justiciary 25 September 1838 and received a sentence of 7 years for stealing a watch. She arrived on the "Planter" in 1839. Is anybody researching MCLEOD in Rosshire and have an Isabella who disappeared around 1838. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers Jan Canberra Australia
Joel wrote here....... > Where can I send for a birth certificate for my grandfather Andrew Ross > born January 1852? All we know is he was born in Scotland and have no > idea where. Don't try. There were scores... maybe hundreds of babes name Andrew Ross born in Scotland in 1852. Most pre 1855 births were not recorded, only the baptism date. And many bairns, walked to church to be baptised. Find Andrew's parents' names, then try to find his birth/ baptism record. Cheers........ ALISTAIR
Alison and List In the OPRs for Kinghorn where my ggrandmother CHARLOTTE MCKENZIE lived alongside many other MACKENZIE families you will find a Murdoch MCKENZIE m. Elizabeth DONALDSON. Could Elizabeth have d. and Murdoch MCKENZIE remarried. Many of the inhabitants of Kinghorn seemed to have moved to Glasgow (Govan) for work in the shipyards as most of mine did when the weaving industry was in decline. Alternatively they emigrated as did some families from Kinghorn as well as Kirkcaldy (Abbotshall) nearby. Alexander MCDONALD m. In a rush of enthusiasm I bought the 1881 census from LDS in Salt Lake ity - I live in the UK. It was dealt with very quickly, arriving in a week, but the freight charges were high, as were the handling and VAT imposed by UK customs. I have since found out you can order from Birmingham in the UK - my recommendation would therefore be to buy from there if you live in Europe - that way there is some money left to feed the kids! More info on their web site. Regards Andy Bernard -----Original Message----- From: L. I have seen references to 1881 census CDs being for sale (yes, I've even seen it on the familysearch web site), and for ordering from a UK distribution centre, possibly in Birmingham. Has anybody out there bought anything from them? Are they OK? What else do they sell? Do they have a catalogue/web site? What's the best way to get in touch? Or is there a better place in the UK for buying this sort of thing? I'm sure there are other people out there who would also appreciate this information. It is also worth keeping in mind that various countries adopted the Gregorian Calender at different times, I believe as much as a century apart. When we see dated primary sources, its well to keep in mind which calender residents of a particular country followed, just to make historical research a little more interesting. Managed to spend some money today on Scots Origins. Came up with the spouses (I think) of my great grandfathers brothers and sisters. Here goes: George MEIKLE, born 1841 in Cambusthenan, married Agnes Forrest Templeton (these are my great grandparents who came to Colorado USA) Agnes Boyd MEIKLE born 1842 in Stonehouse, married Alexander PURDIE in 1861 in Stonehouse. Janet (Jessie) MEIKLE born 1844 in Stonehouse, married John CONWAY, in 1864 in Stonehouse. James Dewar MEIKLE born 1847 in Stonehouse -- still missing his data. He either died between 1851 and 1861, or was living with someone besides parents in 1861. Could not find a marriage. Margaret Millar MEIKLE, born 1849 in Stonehouse, married James Wason in 1870 in Dalserf. Archibald MEIKLE, born 1852 in Stonehouse, married Jessie ROBERTS in 1871 in New Monkland. Mary MEIKLE, born 1855 in Stonehouse, married Robert WRIGHT in 1876 in Dalserf. (Note, found this as Robert Wright and May Meikle). If any of these make a connection, would like to visit with you. I have MEIKLE info, and would like to finish filling in these tree branches. Don and Mary in Wyoming

Just want to say thank you to everyone who looked up George Meikle and wife Margaret in the 1881 census. Too many of you to list, so thanks to all! Because of your information from 1881, we were able to today to locate Margaret's death in New Monkland. And we found George's death prior to that in Dalserf. Sent away today for the documents to prove it all. By the way for everyone's information, Robert Wright and wife Mary Meikle immigrated to Colorado, USA and settled in Broomfield, Colorado. They started the Broomfield Creamery, and also a boarding house. Mary later was appointed to the position of State Dairy Commissioner - the first woman in Colorado to be appointed to that position! She died out in California in 1921. If anyone out there is related to her, I have more information on her. And Mary Meikle was daughter of Margaret, not granddaughter as it says in the census. Thanks again everyone! Don and Mary in Wyoming
Could some kind person do a census lookup for me please. I'm not sure which year - possibly 1861.. David RANKIN(E) born abt. 1810 married Margaret EASTON 3 August 1835 in Carriden, West Lothian Scotland. I am trying to find out where David was born and who his parents were. Their Children were: John, David, Hamilton, Margaret, Elizabeth, Alexander, William Easton, all born in Carriden. (John was my gg-grandfather) Also (if I'm not pushing my luck too far!) on the 1881 census Walter HUNTER married to Susan HALBERT on 11 October 1867 in Bathgate, West Lothian Scotland Children: Susan, Harry, Jane, John, Walter all born in the Bathgate area.
