Although I have access to and am familiar with the information in the OPR's, I would like additional information as follows: (1) What does OPR abbreviate? Old Parish Records? Old Parochial Registers? (2) How broad is the coverage? Do they cover all the parishes in Scotland back into the 1600s or just selected ones? (3) How complete is the coverage? Do they include all records for included parishes or are there gaps in the records? (4) Are additional records being added on a continuing basis? Hi, When someone on the list didn't read their welcome message for instructions on where to subscribe or unsubscribe, we ALL get these notices. It also mystifies me that in the Digest mode, at the top, there is an email link, for just that purpose, all that is needed is to click on it and write the word unsubscribe. But it seems that there are a lot who don't even read the mail.... When I get an unsub notice thru the list, I try to take care of it as soon as possible. Sometimes tho, their email address has changed slightly and it comes up as not subscribed! Most ISP's however, still forward it for a time, but that doesn't help me or the list program to find them. I MUST know their correct address!!! Unless I know the same address that they subbed under, it takes a bit of time and detective work to find them. Hello all, I'm heading north into Scotland this weekend to visit relatives in Lanark (the town not the county) and would very much like to have as much to tell them of my research as I can find. To fill in one or two gaps, could sks with access to the 1881 census please look up the following for me? 1. John STEWART and wife Margaret (nee Fraser) with children Alexander (b. 1874) and John (b. approx. 1877). John was living in Castlecary, Falkirk, Stirlingshire when he got married in 1874, and Margaret in Redcastle, Killearnan. By 1891, they had moved to Abington, Lanarkshire. In 1874, John was working as a Forester but later became an Estate Overseer (poss. change of jobs matching up with change in location?). Before her marriage, Margaret was a dressmaker. 2. Robert FARQUHAR and wife Elizabeth Margaret (nee Wylie) with children Sarah (b. 1868), Robert (b. 1870), Eleanor (b. 1873, but may have died before her first birthday), Archibald (b. 1874). The older children are all recorded as having been born in Kilmarnock where Robert lived before his marriage. Archibald was born in Hutchesontown, Glasgow. Rather than get "upset", I think maybe the person is a "newbie" and understands that many people will read the subject line and delete the message. I am new to the list so thought I'd register my main surname interest which is LIVINGSTON(E) I have always been told we are descended from one of Dr. Davids Uncles. So far my research has taken me back to a Robert Livingston of Dalry, Ayrshire born c 1809 whose father was John. Was this the John born 1775 in Ulva? Robert married a Margaret Brown in 1828 in Dalry and had numerous children, John, James, Robert, Janet(married John MacAllister) William,David, Hugh, Alexander. They were living in Sharon St. Dalry in 1851. James married Jane McCubbin in 1855, they had 3 children, Alexander b.1857, John b1859 and Robert b1856 a stone mason (my g-grandad) who left Scotland and married Catherine Briggs in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1881. However by 1891 he had left his family, rumour has it he returned to Scotland, but he had definitely died by June 1903.
