Yes it's the old saying! "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please some of the people all the time" Thank God I'm not new on this list it would be enough to make me run a mile! Agreed!!! And how awfully embarrassing for the person who sent them, looking for Help from folk belonging to this - usually - friendly List!!! .. A mere 15 messages!! Obviously they were the bulk of messages received by the folk complaining?? I agree. We're all here to help each other. This is a very frustrating avocation we've undertaken. Let's all ignore our differences and concentrate on our similarities. We're, after all, all members of the same family. I made a similar mistake on a different list and was so embarrassed by a letter I received I unsubbed. Let's not let that happen here. Let's read the ones that apply to us and delete the others. It's that simple. And let's not forget that once we were all new to the list. Judy
I do not think that this mailing list is suppose to be used for attitudes and problems with another's viewpoints. Perhaps it would be easier all around if people did list all the names or as many as they can in a subject line. I am sorry to say that after the first one, I read the second one and then also deleted them with no concern as to what was in the remaining ones as it was pretty evident they were the same...but...I just don't have time to read the same email 8 times or more. And each email was identical for the record..only the subject line was different. After we all saw that each one was the same, of course we are going to delete them no matter the subject line cause you named all the family name connections in the first one didn't you? I don't think anyone is trying to attack you here in the least - I believe that we are all just saying that with myself being on 14 mailing lists for genealogy research, I don't have time or patience to read the same one over and over. It's just a suggestion that has been made at this stage. Of course we all hope that your names will find a connection with someone out there. But could we leave it to one email next time? Thanks!!! :) Hope P.S. For the record, I believe all of us open each email and scan through the list of names there so doesn't really matter if "all" the names are on subject line does it? Bye and happy hunting all!!!!!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Dawn Ellis <mellis@nbnet.nb.ca> To: <SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 21 September 1999 19:31 Subject: Re: (Fwd) WALKER > On 21 Sep 99 at 11:22, SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.co wrote: > > > As soon as I saw the second one, I deleted it. Fay: where have you looked? Are you using the complete name? I have another spelling for Stewart/Stuart = Steurd. From where does your information come? Did Stubbs return to Scotland as well? Were the children with her on the return trip? Let us know Cheers Jani
I will post my questions first and hope that skp takes pity on me and can set me straight. In regards to the 1881 census that I see posts about, is this census available at the FHC or do you have to buy it? Also, are any of the other census' available for lookup? What else might I find at the FHC? This is a list of family members that I am trying to find. I am sorry that it is so long but I figured that the more names I included, the better my chances. William PETTIGREW born around/after 1860. Tollhouse, Patna, Ayreshire, Scotland. (Is this even a place?) I think the parents of William are James PETTIGREW and Sarah DUFFY. (Note: William lost his legs in a farming accident, sound familiar?) married Sarah CLARK date unknown. Sarah died in 1947. Children: Adam James (Jim) Matt (Matthew or Mather) Sarah (maybe married a Graeme?) George Clark Pettigrew born August 1901 married Ellen Murray MATHIESON in 1917, Ayreshire, Scotland (Lethen Hill?) Children of Ellen and George William born May 16, 1919 Mary Ravie October 20, 1920 Sarah Clark (Sadie) March 1, 1922 Agnes Mathieson May 3, 1923 George October 26, 1927 I believe that all the children were born in and around Ayreshire. George immigrated to Canada with his family in 1928 and settled in Bruce County, Ontario. Thomas MATHIESON, iron miner married Mary RAVIE born Ayreshire, Scotland, died 1918. children: (in no particular order) Ellen Annie 1 (died in infancy) Annie 2 Bessy - possibly married a BROWN Agnes - possibly married a McDOWELL Bella - possibly married Bill DOWNEY Mary - died at 15 Susan - died at 28 Janet - married Smith HEARST Jean - possibly married a WILSON Margaret(Maggie) - possibly married an AIKTEN The Parents of Thomas Mathieson were Robin MATHIESON and Elizabeth MENZIES (sp). I have no information regarding them. The parents of Mary Ravie were Robert RAVIE and Annie BOYLE. NO info. on them either. HI Folks, There is a proper etiquette for genealogy lists, as I manage one myself, and if you go back to the homepage of this one, it will tell you all over again what you should have read in the first place. Miss Cheryl who manages this list, should make a statement to clarify the minds of those responsible, and those complaining. Jackie Mc
