Helen SANDS married Rudolph FELDTMANN 4 March 1853 in Glasgow. We think her parents were Robert SANDS and Janet ANSON who married at Barony in 1835, and whose daughter Helen was baptised in 1840. Any information while we wait for the FELDTMANN/SANDS cerificate will be welcome. Brian Fleming Sitting on the trapdoor in Melbourne

Hello Amanda My name is Elizabeth and I live in Plymouth Massachusetts USA. Plymouth is where the Pilgrims from England landed in 1620. I live about 3 miles from the Plymouth Rock where the Pilgrims landed. We have lots of history here at the library. My home is about 40 miles south of Boston. I have lived here for 28 years and have 3 grown children and a grandson named Justin. He is only 2 months old. Good luck with your geography project in school. If you want to email me you can. I will answer. Elizabeth Plymouth, Massachusetts USA
Hello Amanda My name is Elizabeth and I live in Plymouth Massachusetts USA. My home is about 40 miles from Brookline which is just outside of Boston. The Ryder Cup is being held at the moment. There are so many people that are attending the tournament that there is a lot of congestion in Boston. Are you doing a school project? You can email me if you want to know anything more about Massachusetts. Elizabeth Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Have been advised that tenant farmers, in the old day, did not have, or use, a personal surname that they used the surname of the laird, or property owner on whose land they worked. Something like the slaves in the USA during the period prior to the Civil War. That means, if true, that becomes another hurdle to consider when researching surnames. Does anyone have any comments, experience, etc., with this situation. Would appreciate knowing. Thanks Jim.

I am at the "brick wall" stage in my research so I am also interested in the message below, but my question would be "till what date did this happen?" I would appreciate suggestions of books to read on the early history of Argyll and the Western Isles. I am interested in the period from the early influx from Ireland and the establishment of the Kingdom of Dalriada to the time of the Lordship Of The Isles. I have a connection with the MacPhees (MacFies) of Colonsay. Regards>>>JMB

Prestonkirk is the Parish name of the Community of East Linton a community on the A1 about 5 miles to the West of Dunbar. Whittingehame is a very small community 2 or 3 miles to the South. Whittingehame is a parish (after 30th September it will have been was, as the Parishes of Prestonkirk. Stenton and Whittingehame are to be united and known as the parish of Teraprain, after a very dominant hill in the parish). While there is a big House, there are a number of farms and cottages in the parish. Hello All It would be great if all readers would just put the Surnames in the Subject line, so we can see the surname without opening the message.
I would truly appreciate it if someone could look up Donald McLenan (McLennan) and Christina (Christy) Monk McLenan in the 1860 cenus. They were married December 12, 1849 in North Uist, Inverness Scotland. Thanks, Lillie Aiken Streetsboro OH
