Thanks to all for sending URLs and helpful hints for searching Aus. BMD information. You are wonderful! Best regards, Janet
OK, so you're talking about a click-on address in a message? I just never had thought of that as being a "link", and you're right that a great many of the ones given don't work, several in the past few days in fact. OK thanks. I did learn something. I have a David Jameson that came over on the John and Sarah at the same time as my ancestor, John Ross on the same ship. They were in the Battle of Worcestor and you may already have this info. If you don't let me know.....also have a David Jamieson in the same book. Blessings, Wanda Ross Every evening I turn my troubles over to God - He's going to be up all night anyway. [Donald J. You aren't being dumb about it! Don't ever, EVER, say you're dumb! We just don't know everything yet! We need to keep learning new things. I just meant that if someone, anyone, sends a link, please recheck it with your browser before you send it to the list, sometimes the links are no longer working, and that's when everyone complains that it doesn't work! At least till SKS(some kind soul) figures out the correct way to get to it! Huggss, Cheryl
Sorry to prove how dumb I am, but Cheryl, please explain what you mean about checking out all links. Mary Lander ----- Original Message ----- From: Cheryl A. Good morning, Ray: I've no idea where James Adams came from in Scotland - he was one of the Scots prisoners taken by British forces following the Battle of Dunbar in 1650 and shipped to America where he was indentured to the Saugus Iron Works. There is apparently no way of telling who his parents were or where he came from, unless luck is really with us and we hit paydirt when we're least expecting it. Have you some idea where your Adamses were from, and whether there was a James amongst them? Hi, Is there a mailing list for Aberdeen? Janet
Hello Listers, It appears that this List and others in the ROOTSWEB family, are receiving repeated messages from Clan Societies and others, which appear to be automated and arrive it seems, from non- participating persons. It would be nice, to also have some normal correspondence from these folk. The content of these messages is welcome. But the repetition, is a financial burden to all of us, as ISP and Phone Co. connect times have to be to paid for. In future for this list, I ask that such messages include: 1.the SNAIL ADDRESS of the sender 2.and the FULL REAL NAME of the sender. Societies and their snail- mail addresses are usually durable. Website and e-mail addresses are something else!! Also, please remember to CHECK out all links BEFORE you send them to the list. Thanks, Cheryl ListMistress
Is it possible for someone to check how many Mcqueens were still in Bracadale in 1841.Some could have been living at Fskavaig which was suppose to have been near Bracadale. Elsie Mcleod. New Zealand.

Like Scotland, Victoria has an online search ($10 out of your plastic for quite a lot of searching) VICGUM (Genealogists Using Microcomputers) tried Victoria, NSW, and Scotland at a recent meeting. Victoria I think gives the same information as is on the microfiche, and you can order your certificate - $17, with or without the reference number, but if you think the one you find is YOURS everything is done for you. The trouble is that the site is run by an American company MAXI which started with shopping mall booths - "Renew your driving licence HERE" and the look alike system doesn't suit computer operation. Yes, GUM did its $10 cold after two pages of results! NSW is free (or was) but doesn' give the full info which is on the CDROM and fiche. Scotland gives you a demo before you put your plastic in. A subscription to genanz-l@rootsweb.com is better value; lots of SKSs on it. Brian Fleming Sitting on the trapdoor in Melbourne (where are those McKenzies and McGregors?)

Greetings all - I was searching some Ontario, Canada marriages today working on my wife's family. On the same page as one of her ancestors was the following: David MAXWELL, age 52, born Tealing, Forfarshire, Scotland, son of James Maxwell and Rachel Maxwell (sorry, no maiden name) married to Helen Walker, age 36, born in Ayr, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Robert and Esther Walker (again no maiden name). Marriage took place in Paris, Ontario on October 10, 1883. Rev. J. W. Ballantine officiated. Both were adherents of the Presbyterian Church Both were residents of Paris, as were both witnesses, Rebecca Walker and James W. (looks like) Brenaman. David's profession listed as "Manufacturer". Hope this is of some help to someone. George M. McCaig, Dwight, Ontario, Canada.
In playing around with my 1881 census and looking for ancestors I came across the following for Montrose. Thought other listers might be interested.
